A very unusual problem with carna 2, Dukester couldn't fix it!

Post by PDH »

I have a very unusual problem. When i try to start carma 2 it tells me that the CD is not in the drive. but I can go into windows explorer and see the contents of the Cd at all times. i have not ever touched the exe file that disables you Cd drive on the Cd, i don't have any patches loaded or anything like that. I have contacted Tech support and they are unable to help(my message and his responce are at the bottom of this page) . I then tryed dukester from carpoclypse.com and he had no sugestions apart from that exe file that disables you cd Drive, which I havn't touched. Could anyone help? eather post a message here or e-mail me at:

Dear Gamer:

Thank you for your interest in Interplay Entertainment Corp. I am not

certain what is causing your game to have troubles, but hopefully if

you try

following the below suggestions we can get your game up and running

correctly. Below are several different things that might be causing

troubles

with your game. You will want to check the following (in the order

listed).

After trying each suggestion, try restarting your game again to see if

it

has corrected the problem:

· Try cleaning your cd. This can sometimes help to correct troubles

like

you have described when the cdrom drive has trouble reading the cd.

· Try setting your cd-rom optimization to NONE as follows:

*Right-click on the MY COMPUTER icon on your desktop.

*Highlight the word PROPERTIES and then left click on it to select that

option.

*Left-click on the PERFORMANCE tab.

*Left-click on the FILE SYSTEM button.

*Left-click on the CD-ROM tab.

*Make sure OPTIMIZE ACCESS PATTERN is set to NO READ AHEAD.

*Also move the slider bar in the SUPPLEMENTAL CACHE SIZE to the left so

that

it is next to the word SMALL.

*Left-click on the OK button.

*Left-click on the CLOSE button.

*Re-Start your computer if you are prompted to do so.

*Try uninstalling and reinstalling the game again.

Also, you would want to close all programs running in the background.

To do

this:

1. Hold down the Ctrl, Alt and tap the Delete key

2. A window will appear

3. Click on a program and click on End Task except for Explorer and

Systray

4. Repeat steps 1-3 until Explorer and Systray are remaining.

Sincerely,

Dave Webb

Interplay Entertainment Corp.

Subject: A Problem! With Carma 2

dear sir,

I have a problem when I try to run carmageddon 2 on my

PC.

The program tells me that I dont have the CD in the CD

Drive. I have been on to your web site and It is not

any of the situations detailed there. I have an

ORIGIONAL CD, It is not damaged (it worked on my old

PC and on my friend s new one.) and I have not got any

pataches loaded of any type.

here is the spec of my new PC:

evesham PC.

AMD Athalon 1200 mhz processor,

NVidia GForce2 ultra 64 meg,

256 meg of DDR SDRAM,

Mother board is an AMD somthing or other...

16X DVD ROM drive,

12X 10X 32X CD R/RW

(I know from doing some Cd copying that both drives

are on the same IDE bus as It tells me so and prompts

me to cancel or burn anyway)

60 GB hard drive,

creative labs sound blaster live! 5.1,

Windows Me,

19" dimond plus 92 moniter.

Not sure what version number Carma 2 is as I've had it

about a year and I bought it for my new PC but I got

the PC a lot later than I thought (It just happened

to work on my old one, but with a rediculously slow

frame rate: it was only a P166 mhs with a 2meg

graphics card) I'm sure that there nothing wrong with

the CD as, as I said it works fine on my mates and he

is a similar spec PC to my new one.

By the way, I have allready tryed installing it from

both drives and putting the CD in both drives each

time.

I am also Investagating the posibility that it's my PC

at fault athough I dout it as all my other games work

fine with no problems.

Thank you for your Time,

Paul Holbrook

(sorry about the spelling!)

I have the same problem. The autorun kicks in everytime I put the CD in the drive, but it doesn't recognise it to play the game. Any suggestions anyone?

I had that problem with my Cd too when I used the 2.0 patch on it... To get rid of the problem, I "cracked" the game and it work now perfectly... I think you can find the C2 crack at Planet maim... But it's been closed for a little time now and although they made some of their files available, I ain't sure that crack is in the lot...

i have the same problem, But that depends on that i changed the direcory C2 is installed to (i just copied the entire directory and pasted it on another hard drive), i cant start the game throu the disk... i have to start the game throu the carma.exe file (in the carma folder)

(this is mutch of basic comp stuff to know)

and if you have 2 or more cddrives, try to change the drive you are using, (but in some older (96/97) games you had to install it from one drive, but when you wanted to play, the disk didnt exist, so you had to change the drive, but there was the same error msg, so i had to remove one cd drive, and then reinstall it all. and it workded)

AND the crack could be found at megagames.com under "GAME FIXES" (to left)then "pcgames" then find carmageddon2 (under c that is) then take a look in "game fixes" and choose the one you want... (dont ask me if it dosnt work, ive never downloaded a crack to carma)

(or the direct URL to the carmaga area)

megagames / carmag2 crack stuff
