Eagle 3 for Grandcarma

Post by Harmalarm »

Created this model in the last few days. It's a highpoly version of the Eagle 3 offcourse... :)

It is still untextured and I just need to finish some internal parts, but allmost ready to be ported to GTA...:grin::grin:

Image

would be cool if I could also port it to Carmageddon right?

Btw, suggestions are very welcome. I'm thinking of giving it a little more aggressive look by adding some spikes or more trash like components...

thanx. I was actually also doubting about the wing. But without it it still looks a bit weird. I think I can make two models.

and yes, I will also port the Eagle 1. I've got permission from Econobrick to use his remodeled version of the Eagle.

I'm with TTR for the rockets. The overal design is really great.
I was at first going to tell you not to texture it too much (for C2 at least) and rather try to use env maps, spec mats and the likes. But now that I have a closer look, I see the smoothing groups/normals aren't that fine. Especially on the doors and around the headlights. So yeah maybe textures after all if these problems cannot be fixed.
Seems to me like it's related to the poly distrib in said areas.

thanx for the reply's guys.

@TTR and Tosh; okay okay... the rockets are a little cheap. :) I think I'm going to leave the spoiler gone totally and replace it by a more sporty spoiler without spikes. Anywho, the rockets are gone. :)

[c] see the smoothing groups/normals aren't that fine. Especially on the doors and around the headlights. [/c]

absolutely right. This render was taken in Rhino, and I thought I could fix the smoothing in Max, but turns out it's just not modeled right. I will do those parts over again, because it will look like shit in GTA as well. And for C2, I can than still try to use env and spec maps as much as possible...

I allso made a rear bumper at the moment, kinda like the front bumper; bullbars with metal sheat filling. And the exhaust pops up underneath.

And overall, I still think it looks a bit to clean... I like it to be a bit more post apocalyptic, if you know what I mean... I'll see if I can come up with something nice...

I personally like the little eagle thing on the back, you can see it in the screens. It's a 3d Eagle thingy which turned out to look pritty neat I think :D

Looks awsome. Can't wait to drive it.

I was thinking and I had this silly idea. Maybe you should make it a stock car. With the default car textures that are used for every car in SA. No wings, no spikes, no vynils. You set the materials on the doors, roof and hood as secondary colour, and the rest as primary. That way, you can have stock eagles parked here and there with the same primary and secondary colours (white, black, yellow, green, etc).
You know how some cars are moddable? You can add wings, paintjobs, bumpers, everything. Now to spice things up, you can replace some of the spoilers and wings used for modding in the garage with the ones you made. Those are just .dff files that attach on a certain dummy placed on some cars. It's not that hard.
Now the funny part. I think you can use scripts to make the stock car look like the Eagle -Set primary colour to red, secondary to black, add spoiler_1, etc. So when you need an eagle you can just script here and there. And if by some chance the player wrecks it he can steal a stock one go to a chopshop and upgrade it.

Also, I'm working on a car for SA myself, though it's not nearly finished.

Hey nice car there! (and welcome)
Looks like it has a nice poly distribution as well!

When it is done, if you're interested to see it in C2 as well, people around here can port it easily.

Hey,

well, that is actually an excellent suggestion. I hope making those mod-parts, and making them add-able is really that easy, because I really don't have any experience with mod-parts. But the idea is actually really good. ;)

The car actually hasn't had any real work since december 08, but I still hope to finish it and add it to the mod. I need to push myself into getting to know gta-car modding, because I've actually never done a car for gta before. Though, I suppose it's not hard at all. I know about the dummy's, damaged models and the main material stuff within max using kam's script, so I suppose it's just a matter of learning the paperwork.

interesting car model there. Wonder what it will look like after a little more work.

Harm, I just took a look at your teaser trailer for GrandCarma, I still haven't got around to getting it working but I really want to play it, it looks like the best thing since Carmageddon came out. :)

By the way, what's the name of the song/band in the video that's on youtube?

The poly count seems a bit on the low side, I like the look you were going for, it's just the.. angularity? of it that throws me off..

Yeah.. It's x-tremely low-poly ))

I had work for this just about 4-5 hours.
I can find some good proportions of transport. Also I really love CARMAGEDDON world. Really strong atmosphere.

I want to make absolutely new transport park, like a works for new carmageddon 4.

And my first car is Eagle 5.

What's the poly count on one of the wheels and what's the poly count on the car not including the wheels.
The wheels look like they have twice as many polygons in them than the car does.

Oh one more think, aren't you doing to stick a spiked blade on the car or some sort of offensive weapon?

The front end looks like a Merc and the rear end looks like a Lamborghini Reventon.

It does look good indeed! I agree with razor on the Merc and Lambo references. The polycount for the body is fine btw! I like the angularity in it, though like razor said, those wheels are way to high poly. The effect of the wheels can almost be acchieved with a good texture you know...

Now go throw on some nice textures, see how it looks then

Very nice concepts there!
IMO it could be yet more interesting if there was a stronger contrast between smoothed parts and the angles. Well the Eagle seems good to me on this point actually, the Cleaver might become closer to this style easily I guess. Also the persepective and proportions in the second Cleaver wip are nice, it might be nice to proceed so that it'd be the actual global look of the car. The "eyes" are a bit tiny no?

I'd totaly see these in C1. Interiorless with reflective windows and textureless fading colours as skin. Kind of solid concept cars.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you're interested!

Seeing we are in the GrandCarma forum, I'm not really sure what your aim is!
Were you planning for a GTA:SA port at first?
Else I guess the posts here should be moved into the Carma forum.

Anyway for C1, I was first thinking about a textureless rendering. But if you want textures, C1 has no real texture limitation in size. However the 3DFX/Glide rendering doesn't load textures bigger than 256². C1 doesn't care much about power of 2 dimensions btw.

C1 cars simply don't have interiors at all. There's a cockpit view though.
When you are done with your 3D scene, all I need is a MAX8 scene or a 3ds file or similar.
