Calling all wannabe-testers!

Post by Gravedrinker »

Hey Carmabuddies!

As part of our ongoing programme to keep growing the Carmageddon brand, a team of specialist mobile devs (NOT enslaved mutants) has been beavering away on the next Carmageddon mobile title.

Prior to going into soft launch we want to get unbiased feedback on the game in its current state from as many avid mobile gamers as possible.

We’re going to make iOS and Android builds available to volunteers in order to get feedback on the game.

So, what would be great is if you are able to help us with this, then check the form HERE for the supported devices, fill it out to let me know and I’ll organise for you to get access to the game plus further instructions, once we’re ready to commence testing (currently estimated to be soon™).

Cheers Carmageddoneers!

Awesome Gravedrinker.

Just submitted an application to test and provide unbiased feedback.

Can't wait to see what the next mobile version is going to pan out like. Very excited for another Stainless release.

Any interest in someone with a Windows Phone (Windows 10)?

Perhaps convert the iOS app using the Windows Bridge thing?

No?

Fine I'll creep back into my lonely dark corner :(

PS: If you create the app for UWP, it runs on phones, tablets, xboxes, hololenses and pcs too!

@Tonrac: Well, that's kinda sad. I guess the C2 physics is still too much to handle for today's smart phones?

I am very curious what is it! "... programme to keep growing the Carmageddon brand..." sounds bloody promising. New Carma game?

I think that you are right, they could port C1 to smartphone because pedestrian are only sprite.

Maybe it will be the splat pack ...

Not yet, they're still sorting it out. I think they're still doing some internal testing before doing the semi-public beta test.

I assume it's okay to post this info as it's all available on Jason & Batwick's own funding company's website (http://www.advintgaming.com/projects/carmageddon-crashers) and a few mobile gaming websites have talked about it, which is where I found this info in the first place, soooo...

It's called Carmageddon Crashers and it is designed specifically for mobiles as quick short-burst gameplay. It's apparently a very unique and interesting take on the franchise, so don't expect the classic gameplay.

[speculation]My best guess would be something similar to the old Burnout crash-modes, but I could be wrong.[/speculation]

So this is how they plan on surviving. Interesting.

Personally, I despise complex mobile games with the small exception of those few ones that are simple puzzle games that go well with a touch screen when you are on a train, bus or have a few spare boring minutes.

Even though I will check it out based on curiosity alone, I will most likely not buy it because 1. It's a car game on the phone and that puts me off and 2. It will most likely stray too much from the classic formula to the point where it will not be for me.

All said I hope it does well because I see this as Stainless's last attempts at saving themselves financially.

Maybe I am wrong but I think not.

If you have better plan and more importantly the funding, go right ahead and help them, but this? This isn't helping.

It is not my job to help them. They can help themselves or they can die trying.

Welcome to capitalism my friend.

When they produce something interesting to me, I will gladly buy it.

I mean, maybe you have a groupie mentality and you support dev studios as if they are some form of rock stars and you buy everything they put out whether good or bad but I sure don't.

For example. I am a John Carmack fan and I've been a fan of his since the early 90's.

I thought for a while that he can do no wrong and that everything he touches turns to gold and even so, I was among the first to call him out when he put out that monstrosity called id tech 5 with which they also managed to royally fuck up Rage in both development time and actual release...

So if I called him out and gave shit to a guy that happens to be one of my favorite dudes in the industry, you can probably easily imagine how lenient I am willing to be towards an entire company, which definitely isn't what it used to be 20 years ago nor is in my top 30 all time inspiring companies.

When it comes to Stainless, I really happen to like one or maybe two dudes for their awesome character display and that's about it.

I have no real knowledge of it more than that and frankly, I don't feel the need to know more other than what they produce today and how good it is.

As for me funding them, that's kind of a great stretch.

I would have to give it a pass though since they don't seem like a profitable investment.

The little business experience that I have, tells me to put my money in a more profitable business (provided I have said money after I win the lottery)

I only just barely bought Reincarnation on a super sale and that is already enough from me.

You get that it's bite-sized mobile spin-off, not the next game in the main series, right? It will obviously deviate from the classic gameplay because that's what it is.

I don't know what the game will actually be but it's a pretty sure bet that it will be to the main Carmageddon games what, for example, Hitman GO is to the main Hitman games: a little companion to be played separately along side the main games.

I seriously doubt it's being made as as a last ditch effort for "how they plan on surviving" but just making full use of the brand they created and now fully own to expand into a market they have already dipped their toes into with quite some success.

It's not like Carma is their only source of income which they have to rely only to survive either, Magic is still very successful and they've got a good history with contract work, so I can't see how they can be in the dire straights you've been claiming for the ages.

Maybe they're not in dire straights but I can't see them having enough money to put out a proper main carmageddon game, else why would they go for kickstarter and paypal donations in the first place?

By survival I don't mean they will outright die as a brand but if their only ability will be to sell one mobile spin off game every 3 years and carmageddon themed napkins, then they are as good as dead for their core fanbase, don't you think?

But It strikes me that I am really dissecting their well being too much when it should not even concern me.

It's just that prior to hearing about this new mobile game, I was really expecting them to either announce a new mobile game or to bite the dust.

And as expected, one of the 2 things happened. It really came as no surprise but I am at least happy they are trying amd won't go down without a fight.

From what I heard, the carmageddon 1 port was really well received due to no day 1 serious bugs and being a great port.

So it only makes sense to go back to mobile where the dev costs are much smaller and the profits seem to work.

Hell, if it's actually good, I will be among the first to try and get it running on pc with an android emulator and a gamepad.

That would make sense. It could even be a similar format to the spin-off game called Burnout Crash. That was a pretty fun game at the time.
