Splat pack?

Post by Secret Chimp »

Does anybody know where I can get the entire Splat Pack for Carmageddon 1 from (preferably with some kind of Mac launcher)? I figure it's got to be abandonware by now, and I always wanted to play the whole thing instead of the couple of cars and tracks you get from the demo hack-over install.

I'd be more interested of the intro movie and the ending movie (and others if there are), as I havent seen them yet. :/ Damn, I could even download them with my broadband if they were upped somewhere... which they quite probably aren't.

Well I might want to play it through as well...

Once I get some stole-ass broadband, I can upload the files somewhere. I watched the beginning cutscene and forgot how cheesy it was (there's little twinkle sounds every time a light turns on, exhaust pipes make blowing-over-a-bottle sounds).

The Splat Pack intro movie is pretty stupid actually...it's about 10 seconds long. All it consists of is max behind the wheel (red and bald...not like the ingame version) and the inside of his car appears to be on fire for some reason (!), driving...then you hear sirens and he's like "huh?....ahahaha!" then it ends! You're not missing much.

And the ending movie is just the same as the regular C1 ending.

edit: yes, this does mean that i have the full splat pack...but it's the windows version, so that could be a problemmo?!

Aha, the intro must have been made too quickly then.

I guess C1 has the best intro movie so far... although the one in C2 had more action... can't tell really, oh well. (But C1's "Game Over" is simply... gold?)

I've got the Spat Pack original here, bought it in that Max Pack bundle where you got C1, Slat Pack, a keychain and mousepad.

I suppose if it's okay I could upload the intro movie somewhere? Not sure it's legal or something.

Exactly!

I bought the Splat Pack the day it was released (in the original european hardbox hehe) and I was rather disappointed at that boring intro movie after those great ones of C1. Since I watched all those 10 seconds the first time I started Splat Pack, I always cancelled it immidiatly at all the hundrets of following Splat Pack starts.

With other words: In my opinion it's wasted server space, but you must know.

Besides that, the Splat Pack was amazing compared to the normal Carma1 in my opinion. Both the tracks and the opponents were much more interesting and fun.

Only thing that sucked was that that "MotherTrucker" opponent was almost indestructible and costed a looooot of time during all the races it appeared. Quite the only possibility to get rid of it was to make it fall off the level which caused a death for a opponent back in those old Carma days, hehe.

So does any place still sell the Splat Pack for 10 bucks or something, or is it hidden somewhere on a site like theunderdogs? I can't find it anywhere and I really want to give it a play.

An add-on pack without tracks aint worth it, in a matter of thought... we already got it really.

I tried to get something going on in a fan made expansion all-new-everything-thing before.. but not enough people were interested, perhaps everyone was just being prudent - its a whole lot to get into, and looking at it now im sorta glad it never really worked out.. just too much to do.

Some Stainless guy btw was kidding once that they'd make a realtime lightning patch only when everyone had 500 Mhz computers or better.

Currently they're making that Novadrome game... in which I was quite disappointed when I saw the screenies... it just seems like it won't be my taste, that's all...

I have the Interplay Action pack. It has Carmageddon, Redneck Rampage, Crime Killer, Mechwarriors 2 and Interstare 76 on it.It's pretty sweet. But, the videos for Carmageddon wont work. Only the intro. I dont have much freespace on my comp now, but when I do, I might be able to put it up for Abondanware with the cutscenes.

Pssspssssssssst.... *make sure you click the glowing 'download' word at the very bottom of the page and not the big symbol above it*

as far as i know, it hasn't.

But doing so is a very easy process.

copy the files:

roadhog.act

roadhog.dat

rdhog.mat

drrender.tab (in the sp shadetab folder)

and paste them into a new folder in c2's cars directory.

then open rdhog.pix and convert the textures into .tif format.

then make a txt and wam file for it by modifying existing ones from a c2 car.

that's all.

Easier than it sounds.

I converted it! Even converted it with a cool skin Chevelle did way back to make it look like a hotrod. I'll see if I can find it.

@ Econobrick; That does sound quite easy! Too bad I don't have those files anywhere in my C1. No Splat Pack stuff except the add-on, ya know? Thanks anyways.

@ Alan; If you could possibly find it & send it my way, I would be eternally grateful!

Ok I sorta had some luck. The old C2 stuff is on an old hard drive from my pc that blew up. Does anyone know how to hook up a secondary hard drive? I've got it in there with the ribbon cable hooked up. But I'm having trouble with the little black jumpers you have to put in. Anyone familiar with this? If it works I'll have all my old C2 stuff back. :help:

Look around your mobo for a second ribbon cable. Most recent IDE/ATA hosts have more than one channel available. If that's the case, you can use each drive as master on its own channel and shouldn't need to fumble w/ DIP-switches or jumpers(positions on such tend to be manufacturer/model-specific ).

Yup, I have the ribbon cable hooked up. The computer doesnt recognize the drive though. Thats why I figured it was an issue with the jumper... damn modern technology.. :suicide: :help:

on your HDD it will give a key to where each jumper should be, you want to change it too 'slave' once you've done that depending on your machine, you may have to go in the BIOS and search for the secondary HDD, if / once it picks it up, save your settings and reboot, that should do it

Most IDE hard drives I've seen, you remove the jumper entirely to make it a slave-then you can connect it to the primary IDE on your mobo alongside the C:\ drive (Primary master)

If you got a CD-ROM drive, it's prolly on the secondary IDE as a secondary master.

You got it hooked up so you obviously got room for it....Do like the other guy said and look for the pinout diagram on the HDD that shows how to configure it for master/slave.

Make ze damned sure it's got a power connector hooked up to it also or ye'll git nada.
