Gothic Metal
Does anybody here like Gothic Metal? I post this thread because some people in my country said that nobody in this damn world likes this kind of metal but I don't believe it. My favorite band is Sirenia, followed by Nightwish and Avantasia. What's yours?
Re: Gothic Metal
this is a good way to meet new bands, here are my suggestions y'all should listen to
i dont know if all of them belong to 'metal' but at least gothic rock.
nightwish
after forever
kamelot
tristania
trail of tears
blind guardian
dream theater
dragonforce
epica
lordi
lunatica
sonata arctica
within temptation

Re: Gothic Metal
Nightwish? Is there anybody who DOESN'T know Nightwish? Everybody knows them, of course. I heard all of these bands but as always I liked only Nightwish. But my question wasn't about "Can you tell me ghotic metal bands". It was are here any gothic metal fans?
Btw, I like Marilyn Manson whose style is gothic rock and I think that his music and C2 were created one for another.

I dont know if I've heard enough of wednesday 13, but is it just me, or do they sound a LOT like Murderdolls...
Re: Gothic Metal
Ok, ok... I can agree on the fact that nightwish, after forever, tristania and the like could be considered "gothic metal" but for fucks sake... blind guardian????? dream theater????? sonata arctica???? they're more into power metal/progressive, don't you think?
Oh and the fact that Lordi wear monster constumes doesn't make them "gothic" methinks, they play a hard rock style inherited from the likes of Kiss, Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister...
On a side note, saw these guys live last saturday, what a hell of a show do they put onstage!!!!
Myself, I once started what you could call a "Gothic Metal" band... Those were the days when Nightwish and the like didn't exist yet, nor did losers like Marilyn Manson and others... we simply took the sound of Sisters Of Mercy, The Mission, The Cult... and added a little distortion and headbanging. Got boring after 2 years and then we turned to pure and simple hard rock.
The one gothic metal bands I liked the best were fellow portuguese neighbors Moonspell and Lacuna Coil, whom we had the opportunity to play with 10 years ago.

Yeah, I agree with Wolfheart!
Blind Guardian and Dream Theather are not gothic metal. Dream Thearter is progressive and BG could be considered a fusion between melodic and power metal. Some people fully say that BG is melodic, but I think they are more than that, especially if you listen to Mirror Mirror, Welcome to Dying and Valhalla.

Wolfheart, I didn't say that M.M. is metal. I know he plays gothic rock. I just mentioned him "by the way". And Nightwish ARE gothic metal. Just like are Sirenia (number 1 and forever ), Avantasia, Tristania... I don't understand what "non-gothic" you see in Nightwish.

The only 'Bible' you need - http://www.metal-archives.com
Try the Advance Search, and be amazed by all the stuff that shows up
1 search with "gothic" as the only word in the genre field gave 1615 results. That's a nice start to go with Noticed "Paradise Lost" as one of the bands. Good stuff, indeed!
