Latency Dirtbagedness!

Ok, so Ive had Bell Sympatico High Speed DSL since something like last spring... all was well, 17-40 ping in HL2, 18-34 in BF2 and so on... untill a few days ago.

My fucking roomate is sharing my connection and plays way too fucking much WoW, which I hate. And also when he's being a dipshit, my ping goes to fuck... but anyways. It's not that as Ive been testing it without the router, just straight to me...

My ping recently, in HL2, I don't know because my filter only sees under 100ms, but in BF2 it's coming up everything from 180ms to 400ms which is odd, as I was playing around 2 pm in BF2 with 34 ping. But around 7 it shot to shit... I know I was thinking maybe its congestion... well that would normally make sense except it's never been "congested" in the like 8ish Months ive been using it.

So, what the hell is going on. Also I can hear a slight noise on the line... I know that might have to do with it, but I don't know what could be causing it because, well nothing new is plugged into the phone lines, and as far as I can tell nothings interfering, I even tried double filters, and unplugging all phones and so on. It just makes no sense that it would start now.

Which package do you have? like what is the down/up speeds? mines 20mbit/2mbit...

Actually found that last night, its got some things to try... but its looking to be provider side because it's 6:30 in the morning and gasp, my Ping to this board is 32.

I know bell might be re-introducing line caps and higher-prices, among other such bullshit in 2007. I have no idea if they've been implimented yet, but then Im on a year unlimited usage contract, so fuck 'em.

Other thing is there is still a little noise on the line, yet my speed is normal, so again not my side. And the reviews are right, the tech support is an entirely new breed of brain damaged.

I've heard that more then just now, lately i think theres just too many people around thinking they got enough knowledge and apply on such a job

While I was still living in Greece, during my last year while doing my MSc, I was living with a 32 year old girl (eh, woman) as a flatmate. She wasn't of the brightest kind, but I digress.

In the appartment we had a 384/128k ADSL connection. So when she moved in, I hooked her up to the router, and things were grand.

After a few days, she taps on my door and asks "Uh.. in class, some guy told me that you can download movies and stuff.. how can I do that?", at which point I'm thinking to myself - Shit, if she starts downloading, there goes my porn, erm.. websurfing and downloading. So, quickly I said - "We're in greece now, can't download illegal stuff, as Greece is in the EU. Could get tracked and get in trouble / fined quite a bit, etc."

She believed me, bless her gullible heart. She didn't download a single fekin' thing for 9 months while she shared the appartment with me. I on the other hand, absolutely abused the connection. When she would ask why the connection got so slow at night (I only download torrents at night, while I sleep, as I want to surf in peace during the day), I would tell her that the lines probably got blocked, or that the ISP had a problem.

I had to buy a router myself cause my sis wanted ofcourse internet too..i tell her not to download with viruses etc, but she is however a youtube addict...but it doesnt hurt my connection much~~

Still rip 2.5mb/s download and 250kb/s upload and a ping under around 8? Yeah i was surprised..

Oh man, I have SBC/AT&T internet and the service is shit. The connection cuts out probably three times an hour or more. Luckly I have the modem set to automatic redial, but it's still a pain in the ass to wait for it to re-connect. Can't play games or download anything big or it shits itself (which isn't a big deal since I'm not a huge gamer/downloader).
