How long you've been to the community?

Post by Takeshi666 »

I've been surfing the Carmageddon sites since...'99? Damn, has it really been that long? I may have had very long breaks between, but yeah, I've been downloading custom cars since then. Fred's "Bandit" Trans Am was the first car I ever downloaded.

I remember all those sites...Toxic Ragers, Crash N' Burn, and that website by the guy who made those bloody awesome Vipers...none of those get updated anymore, and CNB is down entirely.

The first message board I posted on, I hardly remember anything of it...twas probably some primitive version of CWA, assuming CWA even existed yet at the time.

Mm well what can one say, since i could access internet at a friend of mine in 1998 i had floppys full of carma stuff.

To keep me entertained, i then hexedited a ped editor for C1 to open car pixs

Since 2000 i had my own internet but still a shitty computer to ever do anything related to carma...never really bothered to search (humm now i shouldve done that )

Then in 2003 i had bought a new pc, got everything from sites that were on still by then, found cwa...never really wanted to logon cause i dont really like forums...there strict you know.

But CWA wasnt by far and well...since im such a fan i had to login and ball come rolling heh.

Someone had posted a screenshot from C2 showcasing the damage modelling... back in early 2003, on some racing forum. I immediately asked what game it was from. Then I, err, obtained it, and found some cars and stuff to add in. It took me a long ass while to figure out how to get it working in D3D, though. I didn't know I had to remove my steering wheel. I think I signed up here, in August 2003, to ask for help for that.

How to answer this? Hmm.

"Too long"... no...

"Long enough to know better"....no, sounds like something my grandmother would say...

"Long enough to be listed in the credits for C2"...oh please..that really makes me sound like a self-centered dickhead

uh...

First skin for C1 in March 1998 - 2 Military APCs

CWA began late 1998 and yeah the Viper guy was Mass of the CFC

I thought Massacre was Mass? Anyway..

You (and others!) being mentioned in the credits! I always thought that was really neat. I supposed I'd have been around just long enough to possibly make it into TDR's if Torus had been considerate enough to do a section like that in their credits. Although all I did (and ever done really) was just make cars...big whoop?! Oh yeah...then there's the fact I was one of the first going around saying "TDR's gonna be a fucking piece of shit". :P So you know...that couldn't have helped matters?! hehe

Uploaded first car (at cfc) late summer / fall '99 (the date on my site is just a guess)

Dunno when exactly I started posting here, but it was before TDR came out at least...'cause I remember making a post with a picture mocking the proposed TDR box art (a green slime guy instead of max and a '77 gremlin instead of the eagle)?! heh. And I'd been posting here for just little bit before that I think. *Looks at "reged:" date* oh yeah...August 23 2000 Sounds about right I guess.

Whatever my date says... I think it was ~2000 - I bought C2 off my mate Bucko (who had done a skin for Toxic Ragers and then got disinterested) - I then got all interested, and I remember emailing Errol asking to be part of the TR team. Man, I was such a n00b back then >.>

But yeah, I hung around in #carmageddon on IRC for a bit after that, then got a 'job' at ... hmm, I can't remember the name of it, but it was Defect's site - which then went on to be redesigned/called "Neurotic Circle" - but that died out. I started "Pure Carnage", which then died out as I joined TSS

My profile says how long I've been here. I do remember someone posting pictures of C2 at a Midtown Madness forum and I was amazed with the damage graphics. I was lucky to locate the CD in the bargain bin at CompUSA for $5 bundled with some other game (that I still have not yet installed or played).

I had been around for some time, (1 guess 4-5 months) before the date that's written down under my name. I registered at CWA, if I remember correctly, when I started doing the EagleII. And yes, I know I'm not really active, and release a car every whatever months, but I still look at here at least 3 times a day.

Obviously, I've been around here for far too long (As some seem to believe...)

I registered on Tuesday, July 17 of 2001.

I haven't been around much lately & have no real plan to become active within this community again any time soon. The chaos & asinine nature of the comments posted by many became too much for me to digest. Not necessarily what people had to say towards myself either. But moreso, the generally contemptuous attitude that many members here have towards others. It's simply distasteful to me...

I'm still building, modding & even doing a bit of skinning now because it is something that I really enjoy doing. But, I do it for myself now.

None of these comments are directed towards any specific individuals on this board. Nor is this meant to start any crap. It would be appropriate that any improper responses be directed to me via E-Mail so that they can be promptly ignored & deleted. It's fairly evident that the rest of the community doesn't really need to see any more flaming. I'm just not up to the stress related to dealing with that kind of stuff any more.

I'll still be around. I actually check in here about once a week. Personal posts happen very rarely. Mainly because nothing is changing... The bickering continues, sadly.

So, until my next post, Sayonara!

I've been into Carma since '98, Prolly registered here in '99 originally...I've been through a few different comps since then and I hadda keep re-registering, so I don't really remember the exact date.

Crash 'N Burn was the site to see back then. Prolly the most kick-ass Carma site ever.

No, not him. I don't think the guy even comes here anymore. All I remember about him was that, if someone requested for a car, he was the first in line to say "make it yourself!".

I also think he was part of Toxic Ragers, but I could be mistaken. Either way, he used to post a lot back then.

Sadly it's articulate, thoughtful people like you that we need here most.

But you're not the only person I know of that now only makes projects for their own enjoyment because of the nit picking criticisms and in-fighting.

And yes, I did disappear for a few years (when I left in late 2000, CWA wasn't even on this domain - it was ongamersx.com - now defunct) but it continued on because..because..fuck I don't know why, but it did.

Some of the other names I remember from way back: Ratty, Sharkman, Napalm_X, MaxDriver13, Carcass(later as CWR), Mango Head.

And lot's of sites like: BCG Motors, Crash n' Burn, CFC, Carmageddon City, Carmageddon Fusion, Carmageddon Insane,, Carmageddon Service Station, Carpocalypse.com, Maxdriver13' Carmageddon Source, Ped Pizza Palace,, Puma Racing Things, Splat for Mac, TDR2000 City. ...sigh

Thanks for the kind words, CC. But, don't get me wrong... Though I try to get along with everybody, I have had my explosion's on this forum. But, they were usually because of someone else being asininely hostile towards me. A couple of times I simply misunderstood what the other individual was attempting to communicate. Other's deserved a verbal shredding... I have always admitted when I was wrong & took whatever steps were necessary to remedy the situation.

Well, I didn't want to bring this up in public but, I was assaulted from the shadows by an unknown individual that I must consider a coward... This was the last straw that ended my being an active part of this community. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why someone would change my title (The bit under my I.D., to the left) to read ( mindless ) ??? Beast assured me that he could change it to anything else that I wanted but, I couldn't come up with anything to put there. So, I just steeped back & allowed myself to become a movement among the shadows that is rarely seen or heard. That way, I'm just not a target any more...

Maybe that's a bit immature. But, it's better than having a typographic hissy fit on the board.

Anyways, there are still people on here that I consider friends & others whose talent I admire & respect. Thet are the only reason I still come around here. It's the only way I can keep up with what they're up to as far as C2 editting goes since I am not communicating with anyone on a personal basis right now...

I've rambled long enough for this session. So long, guy's!

The "mindless" tag gets put there when you hit 2500 posts.

I guess who ever came up with them at the time thought they were being funny. That's all JP

Really, now? I guess that's what I get for assuming, huh?

I didn't really find it ammusing... Oh well, my mistake. But, the other pettiness around here continues.

Thanks for letting me know that bit of info though, CC. I appreciate it.

The only people I ever noticed with mindless beneath their I.D.s are myself & Apex. After looking into it farther because of your message, I realize that it's because others had their title customised by then.

Apex has a somewhat bad reputation around here and, we got that title at about the same time. So, I assumed wrong.

Again, thanks!

I got into Carmageddon when I got given a demo of C1 in 96? and thought it was the best game ever, so went out and bought the full game and was hooked! I didn't have any net access at this point so I started messing with C1 for myself, no spectacular results or anything. Then C2 came out in 98? and by now I had net access so found the old 'Crash & Burn' site, which opened my eyes to the whole carma world via the CWA.

I released my first car 'Stiffshifter 2' fairly soon afterwards, a conversion of the Thunderbucket, which started out with me messing with Plaything 2. I released several other cars over the years as well as still only 1 of 2? full C2 Total Conversions BangerTC/SoD , I also ran my own site for a while, untill I got bored of it, Seduction of Destruction.

I may have gone AWOL for months on end at times, and I am not as active as I used to be, seen alot of people/sites come and go over the years, but I still read this board, and still play C2, even after all this time it still has the best physics/crash damage of ANY game.

I finally started posting on random forums shortly after Carma 2 came out, but I was making skins for Carma 1 further back in '97. Went by a couple handles such as "Mad Max" or just plain "Max" but finally stuck with Mad Max RW in around '99 because it was unique and hard to mix up with other people. I did have a short lived Carma site of my own in '97 or '98, which also had a sister Descent 1/2 site. God, that feels so long ago and was one of my first websites. There were the usual cheat pages, info, crazy screens and replays, and my skins. I don't think there was much of a community until '99. People kinda just floated around and lots of websites came and went. CarmaCity was the best.

I played the original Carmageddon back in 97, C2, C2 splat pack, TDR, but never got the nosebleed pack.

I started surfing CWA about a half a year or so after the release of TDR... Having remembered how fun Carmageddon was, I saw tools available online for TDR, and started makeing cars for it...

My original Logon was just Beroc, but I lost access to it, dunno why, that was back in November of 2000.

Oh... I remember my first few cars.... Still got em as a matter of fact.... they SUCKED!!!!! but I got better... I made alot of cars, as a matter of fact.. probably alot of cars you can't find online anymore... some, I am not willing to admit I did either.. LOL
