What gives Electric Blue it's buzz?

Post by Takeshi666 »

So after downloading Halogaland's build of this car and noticing it's lacking the signature permanent electro-bastard ray, I started wondering has anyone managed to actually figure out how it was done? If the direct C1-C2 port can do it, then it's certainly possible to do in C2, but I do remember a discussion from countless of eons ago about how no one could figure out how to actually implement the effect on a custom build.

Come to think of it, I think we had that discussion way back when someone had made a very basic upgrade to the C1 version, which was basically just the addition of detachables and a basic interior to the C1 model, but considering how long ago that was, you'd expect someone had figured it out in that time.

It's simply hardcoded.
The game will grant an electro bastard ray to any car named STELLA (folder name).

It's possible to trigger powerups through smashable textures, by the way.

Hardcoded? You mean it's not something you can just implement or remove by altering some values in a text file somewhere?

That's...actually kind of interesting, if you consider this is Carmageddon 2 we're talking about and Electric Blue was never going to be in the game as far as we know. It certainly hasn't come up whenever we talk about the content removed from the game prior to release. Or is the C2 engine just an upgrade of the C1 engine and the "Stella" code is a leftover or wot?

Exactly.

And yes C2 was directly build over C1, and thus there's a lot of leftovers :ssmile:
