The Biggest C2 Discovery in the last 4 years!

Post by The_Devils_Avocado »

Yes that's right ladies and gentlemen, this is undoubtably THE most amazing thing you are likely to see untill Carma4. Discovered by our very own toroid, here is the excerpt from the original post:

I used zeckensack's Glide wrapper, the one mentioned in n3wton's post. ( http://home.t-online.de/home/zsack/glid ... index.html )

My eyes almost fell out too. The resolution gets quadrupled from 640x480 to 1280x960 when I select "try high res". I even switched it back and forth a few times for comparison just to make sure I wasn't seeing things.
And i can confirm that this Does indeed work! Check this pic for undeniable proof!

http://www.lod3d.net/files/largenormous.jpg

toriod my friend, you deserve the Nobel Peace Prize for this one!

Now anyone who missed this in the other thread can't be excused for missing this one! Have fun guys, i'm off to play C2!

This is what I get:

Image

It looks like I'm looking to the backside of the screen. Every texture wich should behind is in front of the other. Even the HUD is hidden behind the building.

Otherwise it looks great.

Specs: Inno3D GeForce 2 MX, DirectX 8.1 Driver 56.72 Win XP pro and 56.64 Win 98 SE

Ps. Post your specs you, could be helpful for people.

I just gave this a go, and boy-oh-boy is this great. I run Carma2 in 1280x1024 @ 85 hz, and it runs smooth as silk. Thanks for this.

PIV 1.7 gHz, 512 MB PC800 RDRAM, Geforce3 ti200, running Windows XP SP1, DirectX 9.0b, Det. 43.45.

This is so cool!

Doesn't work for me... I also got only the background pic in the main menu, plus some of the dark shading behind the texts, which was a little 'torn-up' BTW. If I managed to hit the Start-button with Enter, the race didn't even start, probably it crashed.

Oh well, my video card hasn't been exactly 'perfect' anyway... I just might get another one maybe... the options in the configurator of the wrapper seemed cool at least, plus that there would be fog, speed increase, and the ability to see something underwater, instead of solid blue I get with Direct3D... oh, and 256x256-sized textures of course.

Pfff!!!111

Hot damn!! It's great isn't it?! I have an overclocked Athlon 2700+, 1GB of registered PC2700 RAM, 20 gigs free of a 120 gig HDD, and a Geforce 4 T14800 128mb card. This thing will enable some sexy carma 2 footage now! Ima shoot some more for my new movie now!!

[EDIT: fixed! now only 128mb ram!!]

I dunno why it would produce all those weird effects on different peoples PC's, but so long as 2 people in sheffield are cruisin' in c2 at huge res as smooth as silk then i'm happy

Oh i see you got it workin' too Beast, nice

[Edit] Just a thought, but there seems to be a little correlation here. I have a Geforce3 , Beast has a Geforce3 and PTM has a Geforce4 (with uh.. 1280?Mb of ram )

Maybe this only works with Nvidias newer line of products?

Decrease your desktop resolution to 640x480, or increase the max resolution in the wrapper and select the 'try hires mode' (or what was it called). Worked for me.

That's what I would figure out with the specs. In the readme it says functionality is a bit limited for GeForce 1 and 2 and 4 mx.

ATI cards should work by the way. It's focused on GeForce and ATI

I was playing with some openGL files and then I got that same errormessage. The file I'm using came with sp1 for XP.

Or maybe you need the newest drivers, or DirectX.

i get that same error message. but, Direct x 9 won't install on my com for some very strange reason, so im stuck with 8.1

BTW, i run XP Home SP1, ATi Rage 128 Ultra, Maxator 18.6gig HDD with 6.78gig avaliable,128MB RAM 100Hz refresh rate @ 800x600

It works for me...kinda! Runs better than i expected, but here's the catch...i'm having the same weirdo overlapping problem as Savage! I hope this can be fixed by tinkering, and i get the feeling that it can!

Getting the 'unable to allocate main screen' thingy as well, if anyone else got that error and found a way to solve it let me know!

Although i hardly see the point.. all the game textures are 64X64pixels and some even 32X32.. I actually resized all the textures in half also just to help game performance out (everything but the road textures).. they are just stretching and its gonna look awful anyways wont it? I can play in 1024:768 already anyways if i go to my display properties and set it so applications stretch, i just dont bother cause it looks terrible

If I'm not mistaken, the wrapper resolution tricks uses HW interpolation or something of the same order, so it should not look all stretched-out.

Can you set it to say, not that high, like 1024X768 would rock.

on the site where you can get this glide-wrapper theres also a readme, a lot is explained there. suggest you read it if you want to know about supported cards, or maybe even contact the maker.

its one helluva text to plough through though (3x ough?)

Was gonna ask the same question, because my screen-monitor cant handle more than 1024*768.

You can't. Carmageddon is hardcoded to run in 640X480 wich means with this wrapper it runs in 1280x960. You can also run without the hi-res option at 640x480; You will still have the other advantages.

I know Carma is, but I was more thinking along the lines of the wrapper being able to set the res, unless it's just an equasion it's using to up it.

Just tried it and it works perfect, except for the resolution thing, it's always 640x480, doesn't matter if I choose "try high res". Is really good anyway, I get an average of 45fps with a max of 60fps with a lot of cars, doesn't matter the polycount or 256x256 textures.

So yeah, it's a huge discovery... well, for me at least, it brings back some life to the game, wich I haven't played for a while.

Thanks a lot!

On another note... FOG!!

Got it in 1280x960, thanks to Beast :P forgot to change the "max res" option.

Anyway, PTM, with FOG, you mean this? (check attachment)

I hope there's some way to fix this, it happens in a few c2 tracks, but with the c1 conversions, it's there all the time. Tried changing the global illumination settings and horizon settings but got nothing.

There's a fog/darkness setting in c2 itself. Removed it for me.

I had some fog issues, but if I turn fog/darkness off it looks great.

And now I can set the YON to about 75 without the fog being in the way.
