I think you have some older card, so you can try Econo's suggestion.
I also think you're playing Carma in software mode, with 256 colors, like in Carma1 or not?

I had that CD crack installed but the game still skipped, until I removed the Carma CD from the drive. And don't put in a CD with music, once had Carma with Hexen background.

Sorry, what kind of graphics card do you have.
D3D(Direct3D) is part of DirectX and a way graphic cards render the game, (there's also 3DFX).
