'89 LeSabre

Post by Qwerty_86 »

Finally I've started working on a C2 car! Anyways, it's a 1989 Buick LeSabre as the title states. Here's a few quick renders from one week's worth of work. The first four are rendered with colored polys and the last two are wireframes.

Thanks. I like to keep my polys organized. It makes mapping a little easier.

Yeah, this is a GM H-Body which is a clone of the Olds Delta 88 and Pontiac Bonneville. That car in the pic Auto posted looks like a Bonneville from the taillights (spans across the width of the rear and has a slight curve near the rear quarters) and the huge side trim.

Awesome work. If you want to keep the wheels "flat" like that, you may want to consider the classic GM steel black wheels from the 80s/early 90s.

And Autopilot, what movie/show is that montage from?

Disagree on the wheels. The alloys look much better, plus they are flat on the outside, which the steelies aren't.

Excellent car indeed! We'll be waitting for it @ crashoc.

OMFG A tribute!

Make a dark blue! lol... ah damn I don't know where all the pics are of her. But It had FBI on one side and OPP on the other, no brakes, broken exhaust that shot flames, ah... rear end is gone now, and no doors but one... and it ceased to run a while back

Lol thanks. The wheels are actually the ones from the MM1 model (they were already in the file so I used them for the quick render. It will get GM FWD steelies (actually I'll reskin the Taurus wheels) for the final version. My C2 cars are usually built over the MM1 model (if you think about it, it's kinda like putting clay on top of a mold and then sculpturing it to match) because it's easier since I have a 3D model to work off of. I just add more detail to the C2 version.

I know the hood hinges on the front. It's really awesome. I was playing with the hood of one in the junkyard. I've never seen any other car that has this type of hinge.

I don't know how many polys at the moment. I've guessing it's around 1000-1500 for just the body (what you see in the pics). Tiger Woods sounds like a good driver for this car. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Well you never know since most people hit the reply link in the last post.

Anyways, here's a pic of it with the GM steelies.

And the poly count is a lot higher than I expected.

It's for everything in the pics above.

It's a beaut! Are you going to do the Pontiac and Olds variants as well? I will make this one into my uncle Jim's old 89 LeSabre with white paint and that nasty blue cloth roof option!

I don't know about the other variations. I can't half-ass it like I do with my MM1 cars. Gotta remake the dash, front end, and rear end as well as the textures. I'll think about it.

Yeah they were half assed. I was wondering how fast I could make them. Took about a week for each car and about 4 weeks to wait for someone to get me sounds. Now that I'm working on this LeSabre, I had to look at the old models and I found a very subtle mistake on the MM1 version. It's not a very noticable mistake unless you know what's wrong, but now I know why that car drove me nuts and I couldn't get it to look right!

Jeez, keep it in your pants. Of course there's gonna be updates. It's just my mom keeps pushing me out of the house to "get some fresh air" so that means less time on the computer making this car. I'm just stalling for time between updates by just posting something useless to keep the topic alive.

Here's some pics of the first textured parts. Max is acting up on me now and it won't mirror on the axis line. It's mirroring on the model's centerline. I have to move the mirrored piece so that it looks right. But this isn't the most exact method so there will be little gaps. Any way to fix this so that it mirrors on the axis again?

not saying you should make some "pimp" wheels or spinners but you should add some 3d to those stock

rims, so they at least look just a bit 3d?

They ARE 3D (see wireframe). I could push the middle part in more, but then when someone wants to use a hubcap instead of the steelie texture, then it'd just look weird.

man... i wouldn't bitch about someone trying to assist with car texturing. Not everyone can find good images like that. and besides that I bet he's not the only person who needed wheel textures.
