making cars?

Post by AdamtheClown »

I'm new here, so idk where to post this, so... :P

but I've played Carma2 for over a month (I found it because I saw a video of it on YT) and I want to know how I can make my own cars. I can't make them from scratch (because I can't model worth crap unless it's clay) and I just want to modify original cars and convert cars to Carma2. I have CarEd but I have no clue how to get it to work. So if anyone can help then please do. :D

And like I said, i'm new here.

CWABoard is down at the moment so I can't link you to any of the tutorials over there but there's a few over here:

There's a tutorial for skinning in CarEd http://thesprayshop.net/content/cared-skinning
It's pretty simple and easy to do, I also made a crude video on this on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmsvJ_AQmaw

Also a CarEd tutorial here: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~pdei/ ... torial.zip

If you wanna edit any of the original C2 cars then you're going to need PlayThing 2, it's a bit buggy and you can only run it in 16bit mode but it does the job when it's not crashing. PT2 manual can be found here: http://carma.savage-elve.net/?h=3&p=10

CarEd is pretty easy to use, it gets a bit tedius having to define every tri but it's pretty easy once you get used to it. CoffeyCup made a really useful checklist for when making a new C2 vehicle but as the CWABoard is down I can't get to it (not sure if it's here at devWAM.)

Anyway, take a look at this as there's a list of tutorials here: http://devwam.toshiba-3.com/viewtopic.php?id=324
And this section of the forum may be useful to you: http://devwam.toshiba-3.com/viewforum.php?id=9

I think that is all, I'm sure Toshiba will fill you in on anything I've missed, good luck.

Now that the CWABoard is back up I can link you to a few things from there.
First off you may want to check out the 'noobs' section: http://www.cwaboard.com/ubbthreads/post ... Board=noob

The search feature on CWA can be used but make sure you select the correct search criteria, you'll want to be searching for results under 'All posts' and not from results 'Newer than 1 week' and make sure you select the correct board and whatnot.

Here's CoffeyCup's real useful checklist that I was talking about: http://www.cwaboard.com/ubbthreads/show ... o=&fpart=1

Finally here's a short tutorial by Maxine on the basics of creating a new vehicle in CarEd: http://www.cwaboard.com/ubbthreads/show ... o=&fpart=1
The images seem broken but I think it's still pretty easy to follow without them

Okay, I have all the things I need for CarEd, but it won't open. I double click the batch file and it opens up and dissapears before I can do anything, and when I double click on the jar file, nothing happens...

You installed the Java Runtime Environment, right?
I really suggest this topic at CWA as a first read before any other tutorial.

BTW you can find these files (the JRE and J3D) at this page.
