Success! SBlive conflict solved (ok, & a small prob)

Post by barney »

Success!!

Well, it might be helpful::

Tdr (& Elite Force, hope thats working aswell now) was freezing. Could never complete

a race. Then i thought, hmmmmm, didnt this

start happening when i installed (my

previously not fully installed) 'live' soundblaster software??? And yes BINGO! As

soon as i uninstalled ALL the SBlive stuff

NO freezes. So there u go. Might just be my system. Might not be.

Now (after reinstalling tdr) i don't have

access to all the tracks (esp. 'HELL', what

an EVIL track!!!) OR all the cars. I don't

want to use the savegame cheat as it makes

the cars very unrealistic (too much power,

etc.). 'openLevelsGuv' helps a bit but doesnt

open everything. I can't remember what

i did before, it'll probably come back to me

/eventually/ after overheating my neurons with

the freezing problem. Any ideas?

(an interstate inspired poem

The roar of the Tao over warm tarmac

I turn to accelerate beyond my Ken

Life takes the wheel and I Am Free

A calming bird call......

) Record this and play it back at (and

this is very important) the MOST chaotic

moment of your game. Enlightenment will then

be assured.....;->

i'm leaving this now for the moment as i

disabled sound for TDR (after getting another

freeze) ans it /still/ froze! At least i

get a /few/ minutes of game time.

With Elite Force doing similiar things it

leads me to think of good(?) news; that it's

not actually TDR (a conflicting bug in it specific to my system would be very difficult to fix)

but either my directx or a hardware problem.

TDR says it needs an older version of directx

(i've got 8). I kept it at 8. Mmmm.

Anyway i could be off to news://alt.windows

to ask a few questions. Actually another

clue if u can be bothered with this kind of thing. A Linux boot produces a 'dazed and

confused' message to do with RAM - a faulty

memory chip? Means i might leave a memory

test 'burner' running for a bit when i get a chance. Oddly i've had 'freezeless' games

online, so at least i can still do that

hopefully. Mmmm. //-)

i've just had my first full untimed race

(didnt time it but it must of been well over half an hour) without a freeze!

i dont think it was the sblive! (waz sharing

a irq with my video card but moved it anyway

even though it should be ok ("irq sharing")).

I updated bios, drivers, etc. did a scandisk,

defrag, mem test, etc etc blah blah blah (all

the standard stuff). I decellerated (where do

u ever see that word these days!) my video

card. I think that's what it is. My cpu is

a 900mhz with 500mbs of memory - i think, for

some reason, TDR was causing everything to

"trip over it'self" (timing!). this is prob

an 'instability' (runnin it /too/ fast!) in

my system that TDR has highlighted rather well. Well done. Pat on the back to tdr...! (no really :-)
