You newbies really do hate to use the search option here, don't you?
Well, the programs you'll need can be found here. And, tutorials are here.
Now, that's all I can do for you at this time. Get 'em, install 'em & start building!

Re: yet, another qeustion
JP covered most of it, but the reason theres so many cars for c2 is of because 1: its older, 2: cared is easy to use, 3: you need 3dmax 3.1 for tdr, 4: most say c2 rules more, 5: there are more c2 modelers then for tdr

Snowball effect.
Because there's more cars for C2, it gets played more and thus people will make mre cars for the game they play the most.

Re: yet, another qeustion
Very good point! But TDR, despite its kickass graphics engine, pretty much sucks in a lot of areas C2 is darn good at(car polycount, track polycount, editability). Finally, making stuff for C2 is just way easier all-around, which is most certainly the cause of said abundance of stuff.

Re: yet, another qeustion
wow this modelling stuff is really hard i thought i at least could make a box but i can even do that but im not gonna give up.
Re: yet, another qeustion
Heh. Modeling's not THAT hard.
If an old geezer like me can pick it up quick-you should have no trouble.
Ya gotta think in 3D, tho. Keeping track of which side yer lookin' at when, in what window.
'S not so hard once ya get the idea.
My first car was a box and it thrilled me to hell and back when the sonuvabitch actually RAN in C2.
Lotsa components I make look all weirdly oriented initially, but then I just drag the points into place when I'm done and it looks much better.
EVERYTHING you make starts out perfectly FLAT. THEN once you've made the part, you drag the edges of it and bend it into the shape ya want it to be. Easier to keep track of all those pesky points when it's flat.
Here's a fender I did for a pickup truck:
It started out flat and one-dimensional until I had the basic shape and then I just bent it until it looked right.

Re: yet, another qeustion
sorry i am not very good at this but it would probably help me a lot to see a picture of just a simple 3d box. would you be able to post a pic of a 3d box if you have one
Re: yet, another qeustion
Some have a tallent for modeling some just need to practise alot untill they get the hang of it... i had to practise for a good while...
A good tip, DONT start whit making a hig quality model as a goal, as its will have a bad effect if it turns out to be shit... start whit a less advanced model to finnish as a first goal... like a lets say... a log whit wheels... quite simple... still it goes throu alot of training as it has a round shape (lerns the brain to think 3d wise)... Now if that makes sense to anyone... id be... happy

'K:
Notice I left one triangle out (but selected)-just to give ya the idea that every component shape is made from triangles.
12 triangles make a cube.

Re: yet, another qeustion
This is how that box would look if you treated it like a paper model and spread it out flat:
Notice I folded it a bit so ya could see the sides, top and bottom?
I also bent one of the triangles so it would be more visible in the 3D window.

Re: yet, another qeustion
that looks very simple but when i do that on my it doesnt look right. when i plot a point in the left side view the plot will also show up in the other boxes (top, front) so when i do this it does not look like a box. and i had to take a pic with my web cam beacuse i dont know how you guys just take a pic like you do. but in my picture you can see my plots from the left front and top what am i doing wrong
sorry for the big pic

Re: yet, another qeustion
Here's the same box (keep thinking paper model-it helps ya keep 3D space sorted out)-almost folded together completely:
Just remember that when yer lookin' in only one editing (green lines) window, all you're seein' is ONE side of what yer doin'.
Window #1-Yer lookin' at it from the left.
Window #2-Yer lookin at it from the front.
Window #3-Yer lookin at it from the top.
The right and back sides can be made by 'mirroring' or duplicating the exact physical opposite of the components on the sides ya CAN see-so the sides ya CAN'T see will look exactly the same.
'S why most of us just build HALF a car and 'mirror' it to make a whole one. If the left cutaway half is centered-the right half (which you duplicate one component at a time) matches up perfectly with the left half.
Then stuff like the nose and deck are just a matter of connecting the appropriate hole between the two with stuff that looks believeable.

Re: yet, another qeustion
wow you are really good at this stuff i am gonna need some practice.
Re: yet, another qeustion
AH! OK, I see what ya did wrong!
Heh...You left the parts (sides) you made all centered on zero...as in X=0, Y=0 and Z=0!
Notice the distance from where all the axes intersect on my screenshots that sie sides are away from?
You made 'em right but ya left 'em all centered.
Easy to fix! Just drag the sides away an equal distance from 0,0,0 (the point where all the axes intersect) and it'll look like a box!
If any of your sides are facing the wrong way, just click on the arrows in the TRIANGLES section of component edit until the points (dots) ya want are selected (circled) and then click on "invert triangle" for each one (keep clicking the up or down arrow depending on which way yer going around the box) and they'll face the right way around.
CarEd is neat in one aspect-if you always make your next triangle off the one you already made-it'll automatically face the same way as the previous one. Makes it less tedious. But CarEd sometimes gets confused every so often and you have to select the problem triangle and turn the sucker around rightways.
While that is easy on a simple box-it can be a righteous hop inna balls when you're workin' on a mega-bazillion-poly complicated car model where yer looking thru just one side but you see everything at once.
Compound curves on a complicated shape can really suck-like that Bentley I made and the ass-end of the Zastava I made...Sonofabitch! Those were a bastard to keep track of!

Goodly.
Half of knowin' what yer doin' is havin' seen it done somewheres before.
The other half is just pure screwin' up

Re: yet, another qeustion
a little more help
"and i had to take a pic with my web cam beacuse i dont know how you guys just take a pic like you do"
Solution: while doing what ever you want to take a picture of just press the"PrtScr" button, which stands
short for Print Screen, this will "take" the picture and hold it in your memory... now, open your paint
program and paste a new image and it /should/ make a new image with your pic you took a little while
back, this works for just about every game or program running in windows (maybe others as well)
so, when playing TDR just hit "PrintScreen" and it will take an instant pic of what your doing
then exit or "Alt + Tab" which will minimize TDR so you can open your paint program and paste
your new pic into the program and then save it
ONE last thing, it looks like "Warez P2P" is running on your taskbar is that true?

Re: yet, another qeustion
'K....here's your box.
Notice that all the sides ya made are still at 0,0,0 (zero, or centered on X, Y, and Z axes)?
If you were to drag the sides out an equal distance from zero, like this:
You'll notice that it starts looking like you intended it to and then if you drag those sides all the way out to the same distance:
Ya see that it becomes the box you wanted.
Remember, when you look through a 3d mesh from only one side-you're looking THRU it so you can see everything at once-except where points and lines are directly behind each other.
It's hard to see those in the editing views-ya just gotta know they're there.

Re: yet, another qeustion
ive got another qeustion. if i want to customize another car i have downloaded from somewhere online what exacly do i have to do cause i have tryed to just upload the .DAT file to car ed and then convert the car and then save it back into the car folder blah blah blah but when i go into the game and try to race this car, c2 just shuts down. i know i am doing something wrong so what is it.
Re: yet, another qeustion
The dat file is really useless for editing because it's made after everything's grouped and flattened in PlayThing. Plus they don't have the mapping. You need the .obj file to edit in CarEd.

Just so you know, not all C2 cars were created in CarEd so you might be out of luck if the original creator didn't model it in CarEd.
