Revolt Carmageddon project

Post by Harmalarm »

A couple of weeks ago I got in contact with some people who are modding the game called revolt, of which I am sure many of you know the game. Their idea is to port Carmageddon models to Revolt.

After a period of silence I was happy to get some shots that put a smile on my face. I thought I'd share some of them.

[nmg]dd2.harmsollie.nl/dd2images/10%20powerup-and-away.JPG[/nmg]

Offcourse the gameplay will still be totally Revolt. But filled with Carmageddon models I think it will be fun. Hopefully a track will soon be converted to the game, let's see how that will look like.

The project has a forum base, but most work is done behind the scenes I guess; http://z3.invisionfree.com/Revolt_Live/ ... ry4697474.

I'm curious how far this project will get, and what it will bring us. If any forum base or news pops up I will post it here.

Yeah that looks like a great mod, I like the look of the Carmageddon cars in this game.
Looking forward to see a track ingame!

Hello all, I'm new here, and it's me who converted those cars. I can say you that carma1 cars and carmaSP cars have been totally converted, and it's CityWalker who params them. I have done several carma2 cars as you can see. It's not finished, but soon :). For the track, it's a hard work, nearly imossible, because revolt doesn't support a lot of textures, there must be 10 tex files maxi, and their size is 256*256. Moreover, someone will do a scratch, because the problem is that, for example, the ground will have a blurry texture if we use the model of the track. So the track will be long to appear, but I'm sure, and I hope, it'll be finished.

Crazy limitations! Must be difficult to work with these constraints.

Okay, part 1 of the project is done and available at:
http://rvzt.zackattackgames.com/main/co ... Conversion

Part SP is in the play-testing stage and part 2 will come after that.

If you have Re-Volt, you can try them out. If not, well, they're the same in Carmageddon and you all have THAT, right? :)

Part SP is out, too.

Mind you, it does have problems, as two of the cars had unextractable tex files, so Hawk II is currently blue and we were forced to include a warranty replacement for Annihilator II (it's Vlad3 with the parameters of Annihilator II. It even has it's designation written on the large rear spoiler :) )
Other than that, I hope they turned out okay. I have started to think that Carmageddon and Re-Volt have some eerie similarity under the hood...

Nicey work!
Tell me what textures you guys want and I'll extract them. The SP ones sometimes use an alt. version which included some more infos from the base textures etc.
Also what exactly is the problem with Annihilator 2?

I tried to extract those textures using carmageddit but wasn't able to. I suppose this PIX file is the alternative one you speak of. I spent about half an hour trying to find its difference from a working pix file, but the format seemed all the same to me.
perhaps you can give it a go.

oh and very nice work you guys.

Err... just noticed you guys released a "yellow Hawk Mk.2" which actually has few in common with the original car but the base model?

Here's how the yellow Hawk II looks like:
[nmg]img686.imageshack.us/img686/3819/35534552.png[/nmg]

Looking at your conversion, the difference is obvious, esp. the back.
[nmg]img44.imageshack.us/img44/3127/hawkiiy.jpg[/nmg]
These are recolored blue Hawk II textures which actually are from the Eagle II ('t was a mistake within the SP). The real Hawk II textures are different.

So I'm wondering, are all the Carma SP conversions you did like this?

that is probably my fault. I remember having some problems with the textures of the hawk. I bet you the rest of the cars are fine.

Okay, Toshiba, if you can properly extract the textures of Hawk II and Annihilator II, then I guess we could correct the Hawk II and actually do the Annihilator II and update the SP Conversion Pack. (The Annihilator II was not done exactly because of the lack of texture).

Here they are.
I'd suggest not using the fake env map texture for the windshield, and using plain blue or whitey color instead.

Okay, thanks to Toshiba, the Splat Pack (and Hawk II alone as well) are proper and updated at RVZT.

http://rvzt.zackattackgames.com/main/co ... Conversion
http://rvzt.zackattackgames.com/main/co ... version%29

Edit: the C2 Conversion Pack is uploaded to RVZT as well.
http://rvzt.zackattackgames.com/main/co ... Conversion

The project is complete now :) (unless someone wants to get custom carma cars, and then we would need to get back to work again )

Nicen! Always good to see big projects getting completed.
Well if you want to go a tad further there are some TDR cars floating around that have been ported to C1/C2.

It could be cool if I could convert them too, but I'm afraid of the copyrights, I don't know if we have the rights, and the authors of these cars... I don't know them, could you do it for me, and could someone convert them to 3ds for me, plz ^^

Lemme try to list them...

PedBasher by me
The Machine (for C1) by me
New Suppressor by me
Limey by several persons (my C1 port has correct wheels)
Eagle mk4 by TTR
Jaws by TTR
The Beast by TTR
Cop car by TTR
Garbo by TTR

I think you already put Limey into ReVolt so that's 8 cars left by me and TTR. As long as they are ported correctly there's no problem with us.
However getting them back into MAX takes time to be done properly. Either ask Harm again or wait for me to have more free time. There's a script to bring BRender stuff into MAX but we don't share it, and preparing the models isn't easy anyway.
