Fockin' CarEd bugger....
Fockin' CarEd bugger....
I just did a clean re-install of CarEd and the associated Java files (old tried and true files-JAVA3D-1_2-WIN-OPENGL-RT.EXE and JRE-1_2_2_005-WIN.EXE)
Problem I've got is the textures on any given model show up all mapped wrong even though the component edit box says they're mapped right.
The most common problem is the wheel textures-no matter what direction I try to map them in they come out all skewed. Fenders and stuff can also turn out mapped weird.
Anybody remember what causes this problem?
CarEd tells me the same thing it always does-Canvas3d is constructed witth a null graphics environment.
This is not usually a problem and everything always worked OK for me even though it said this.
Only now do I have the mapping problem-it shows up in the 3d window.

Re: Fockin' CarEd bugger....
change your screen res thing to 24bit instead of 16, or the other way round... to 16 from 24 or something?
that solved it for me.
that solved it for me.
Re: Fockin' CarEd bugger....
'K, that might do it-I'm runnin' 1280x1024 true color 32 bit atm.
Dis here is whut I got:
As ya c'n see-it's VERY wrong!

Re: Fockin' CarEd bugger....
I had something like that when some orphaned vertices were somewhere in my wheel model. Sometimes Cared just invents some vertices, sometimes when converting something I end up with three times the vertices count.
Don't shoot me, i'm just the piano player.

Re: Fockin' CarEd bugger....
Just so you know, MAX has a funny way of welding stuff, each triangle being added to the component, the redundant vertices aren't eliminated from the count. This is apparent on almost all of Beroc's models converted to C2, for example. Just run plaything's "optimise"/vertices option on, say the Bloodmixer, you'll be surprised.
Re: Fockin' CarEd bugger....
Yer damn close there, R_M.
It's a '47 Pontiac Streamliner I modeled from a pic.
Trouble is, it was one of my very first models and it's awful rough.
I still use the car in my game. I'll send it to ya if'n ya wanna straighten it out.
I'd like to see that one circulated as there's an awful shortage of "shoebox" cars from the '40s-'50s.
Also, Elve, if ya notice-the wheels aren't the only things mapped wrong. The wheels are just the most commonly mismapped part.
ALL of my models including the finished ones already released are showing up this way....

Re: Fockin' CarEd bugger....
Have you tried using the direct3d java extension instead? That's what I use, maybe it will help (and yes, it does load a "null graphics configuration").
Re: Fockin' CarEd bugger....
No, I haven't tried that..Mebbe that's why it's screwin' up. I keep putting CarEd on newer machines.
I'm running nVidia TNT2 Vanta card and mebbe it doesn't like the old java configuration 'r sumpin'.
Do you know where I can get the correct file(s) and exactly what they're called?

Re: Fockin' CarEd bugger....
Many thanks to ya LJ. I downloaded the Java files from TSS and set 'em up and I guess that DirectX thingy was what I needed.
Weird and Gearley's Garage is up and running again.
I intend to finish that '47 Pontiac very soon (I'm workin' on the skin now).
Also the Black Knight will be released soon as well thanks to R_M's bbox work!
Stay tuned....

DB: no probs mate, when I installed CarEd on this comp I actually didn't think about it, I just got the directx one... glad its working now!
TDA: shut it, if he'd asked for max we'd have given him max, don't change the subject dammit! Oh, and one of these is required.
Random: *grins* that's a heavy duty machine!
