Double-post because I'm a rascal.
After a 3 week hiatus due to a brain injury I'm back actively developing this! And lo, C:R, since the last update, doesn't particularly like my 80/20 MDL files. If you try the Airport for example you'll be able to drive around reasonably but most of the geometry is invisible amongst other issues.
I'll work this all out but it's going to take time.

Should probably ignore my earlier post. Yes the Airport doesn't really work anymore but my export code is still sound. Well, it is now I fixed a really, really stupid error. FBX import to export is still going a little wonky though. Updated Airport soon I guess.

Real nice work so far Errol. Too bad the FBX format is such a bitch and taking up so much of your time, but on the other hand it's a good challenge right? Or are you fed up with it by now?

The FBX format is most definitely a timesink. I think there is light at the end of that tunnel though. Next timesink will be integrated ZAD/TWT/PAK support :(

Skinning features are hidden behind the other large development I've been avoiding... mouse control! Can't pick faces if face-picking doesn't work :(

I just made a few changes to a cube to get it into an ugly, rough car shape and slapped two cylinders under it for "wheels", exported as fbx from Blender and tried to load it in Flummery, but it results in "Unhandled exception has occured - Object reference not set to an instance of an object" and then crashing. Same thing trying to import an .obj version of it. Maybe that's something I should have taken care of in Blender before exporting? I'm not sure.
I uploaded the files for you regardless, maybe it can be of use.

Gravedrinker, export as a binary FBX not an ASCII, Flummery doesn't support ASCII. Also, I should really remove OBJ from the menu as it will never be a supported type (obj doesn't support hierarchy).
If the binary FBX doesn't work please pass it over and I'll investigate.

As FatCat mentions, you need to triangulate before export. I really need to alert the user to more things like this! As to rotation, translation and scale you should try exporting some of the C:R vehicles to FBX (unfortunately you'll need to manually unzad them first) and use them as a guide as to the appropriate sizing and orientation.

How exactly do I tag things as the driver, the wheels or the exhaust vfx? I manage to import a simple mesh but then don't know what to do any further. What do I do after importing?
