A tutorial would be great. I'll admit I haven't had luck applying them in PT2.

You Coffey, should already be using 3D Max for everything man..do you know it's power? I still don't and not even Tosh or AdR even! There's so many you can pull off in there omfg but seriously now with these handy tools we got you should step off from Sketchup/CarEd/PT2 and start a "real" 3D dedicated program.
I know it'll be hard at first but i managed it too! And even if you don't like it at first you can get a Sketchup map or so to 3D Max and try to optimize that and even texture it. So then you know the basics.
