Question About Wheels

Post by Husky »

I'm trying to make wheels using two textures for Carmageddon 2. So I split it into two components, the rim, and the thread. I'm I doing this right? If so What do I next? I've named one part of the wheel (FR one for example) 'FRWheel' and the other 'FRWheel2'

Well, easiest way in CarEd for tire treads is to break tire into 5 parts.

The sidewalls as one, and break the tread into four pieces.

Then you can apply the tread texture like so:

Don't name any of the parts FRWHEEL.*

You go to Components >> Group Components

and group them together and call the group FRWHEEL

*actually don't use the word "Wheel" in any part name that isn't a true wheel or CarEd will think its supposed to setup

for a wheel when you compile. See Econo's post on using 'wheel' in a part name

When I tried it with 2, it wouldn't let me compile it. It gave me an error reporting saying its groups had cyclic links. I'll tell you if I have this problem again! And thanks for helping!

Umm, probably because you named the parts FRWHEEL and FRWHEEL2.

Did you even read what I posted about not using the word "wheel" on any of the parts?

Yes, and It'd already said that error before I'd even started this thread. All is fix now though. Thanks for the help!

Sorry, I'm cranky lately...ah shit, who am I fooling.? I am always cranky!

Is your wheel still 2 parts, with the tread projected from the top?

If you want to put a real tread that wraps around you need to

break the wheel apart into more pieces.

Its broken into 5 parts, the front right wheel for example; FRWS, FRWT, FRWR, FRWL, FRWB. There all grouped into FRWHEEL.
