Dear returning Carmageddon fans Image

Now I'm getting annoyed once more.

I just installed C2 there today for the first time in months, and I'm getting similar problems to you. It used to work fine before with all the relevant patches and what not, although I'm now using XP SP3 as opposed to SP2, maybe that has something to do with it.

Right, so I got the original UK Zombie Version of C2 today after I had bought it off eBay.

I get this error when I try to start the game WITHOUT messing around with patches:

---------------------------

Incorrect version of Windows

---------------------------

Sorry, not supported on Windows NT.

---------------------------

So I try the XP patch and I get the front screen error once more!

Which patch should I install first?!

:help:

If you're wondering why this hasn't been updated in two weeks, it's because I've been in Turkey on holiday.

If somebody could tell me which patch to install first, then I'll try to fix the problem myself but it's becoming really irritating getting the same errors over and over again.

...and if you're wondering why I'm bumping my thread AGAIN it's because I have just realised something.

S.O.D. used to work on the PC (it still works on my laptop), yet C2 doesn't. Could it be because all the files were unTWTed beforehand?

I only said it to him in the post because he hadn't answered my PMs.

I just want to get my C2 working and if you want to act like that, then fine; I won't ask for your help anymore.

Jon we have tried very hard to get your problem fixed.

Everyone has chimed in with suggestions, don't say we haven't tried.

Excuse me for sounding bitter, but you only seem to come around when you have problems.

I know that you've given me all these suggestions, and I have tried them (albeit with no success), but if someone could just tell me which patch I should install first on top of a clean installation of C2 (the UK Zombie Edition) then I might be able to get the problem fixed.

Does SOD work right now on your comp ? If so you might have the key to find what is causing that legendary bug.
Yeah, SOD works on here, but not C2.

I think the problem may be because all the SOD files are unTWTed while the C2 ones aren't.

I doubt that's the problem, it could be any number of things. i've just re-install and add all of the patches, if that doesnt work maybe you have the wrong patches, i don't know. Just a thought.

EDIT:

Setup--------------------------

1. Install Carmageddon 2 (full install),

2. Then Install the English Blood 2.0 Patch,

3. Extract the files in "English Blood 2.0 NoCD.zip" to your C2 directory.

Now you can play the game on WindowsXP in Direct3D T&L mode.

To run the game in 3Dfx Glide you need a compatible 3D-card or:

4. Install GlideWrapper 0.78b* and run the Configurator from Start,

5. Select the "App specific override" option and then

select "CARMA2_HW.EXE" from the list and set your resolution.

Now you can play the game on WindowsXP in Glide mode also.

It can be tricky to get Glide mode to work, alternatively,

you can try dgVoodoo (don't install both):

4. Install dgVoodoo 1.40+ or any other version,

5. Don't run the server. Place the dll's and exe's in your carmageddon 2 directory.

6. Use dgVoodoo setup, select "Windows" and set whatever resolution and such you want.

Here are all of the files you should need.

After all these years I can FINALLY play C2 on hardware mode.

Thank you for that pack Razor, and thanks to everyone who's given suggestions over the past month or so!

It was worth it in the end!

But when you posted that Jon replied that the English Blood patch failed.

What changed in the 5 or 6 threads after that?

Did the English Patch apply for American ctizenship?

Sorry, I didn't run winDiff on the two posts to see the where the difference was.

I was hoping this could be verified by Jon, since he's the one who posted the original problem.

I tried Zeckensack's and it went back to the front screen error.

I haven't tried dgVoodoo yet, but I'm using Direct 3D anyway.

I finally saw the end of the intro movie!

Jon,

We are trying to figure out what the issue was.

So the next time someone comes along with the problem it we can fix it right away.

Could you be more specific?

Which GlideWrapper works, 0.82b? But not 0.82c?

0.84c didn't work for me, and neither did dgVoodoo 1.30 when I first installed it.

A little update.

Post by Jon606 »

So I completed the UK Zombie Version of C2 (and saw the ending movie ), but I wanted to get the humans back. I backed up my game before I uninstalled it, so no worries about losing my game progress.

I installed the Sold Out re-release, reinstalled the patches that fixed my other version, installed the dgVoodoo 1.40+ glide wrapper to see if I could get it working in Glide, but when I tried to open the game, it crashed at the point in the opening movie it crashed at before with a "carma2_HW.exe has performed an illegal action" error.

My question is: how would I get the humans in the game without having to re-install it?

I was thinking of installing both of them in separate folders, and then move the DATA folder from the Blood Version into the Zombie Version, although I'm not sure if that's right.

You just can't help breaking the game can you?

If you can find the C2 Blood Patch, that turns zombies to humans.

Otherwise, you can download Savage Elves GTA Ped Pack most people have those as peds instead of the low poly original peds.

Cause the exe error is mighty easy to fix, if done properly.

Yar! I installed C2 on my Windows XP Home/SP3 laptop and it runs better than it did on my desktop comp so SP3 isn't the cause.

(I'm running it on an Acer Aspire one netbook. Screen's a lil' stretchy (1024x600) but it's smooth and very playable without a glide wrapper in HW mode.)
