C1 "Couldn't Find Key Map File" Error

Post by Razor »

Hi, i'm new here, i have been browsing around the forums for the past few years though.

I thought i may sign up.

I have a problem with playing carmageddon 1, i recently downloaded a .iso of the game from here

http://www.warez-bb.org/viewtopic.php?t ... highlight=

I have extracted the .zip file and there is two .iso archives, one for carmageddon and one for splat pack (which has carmageddon in the .iso anyway).

I extracted the carmageddon.iso archive into my documents under a new directory, then i installed the glide wrapper and 3dfx patch, after click on any of the .exe files (like carmav.exe, carma.exe, carmagv.exe) i get and error that reads "Carmageddon Fatal Error - Couldn't find key map file".

I was just wondering whether there is a solution to this problem (i don't think this error has been mentioned before as i cant find it anywhere).

Oh yes, i am running Windows XP SP2.

I hopet his all makes sense.

Thank you for your help.

LOL an iso file is an image file of a real rom. To able to play this you have to install from the iso file rather then extract it

i've just done that, twice.

The first time the installer just stopped on 75% for about half an hour.

The second time it worked and i tried to run it and i get the same error.

I have two copies of the original Max Pack discs that did not come with the Win95 version so I happened upon a torrent of the ISO files somewhere on the net. I managed to download and burn the images to CD-RW discs and have been using those to get it working on XP. Pretty stable so far however I have trouble with machines disappearing in network play, etc.

Get a copy of Nero or similar program and create your own CD to install from. I know the program saves a drive and directory somewhere in the data directory and without that file, things don't work very well.

CK

P.S. Now if only I could get the Splat Pack Meld to work...
