Goaty the ped - some sort of "Boner" error

Post by Tarquin »

I've resently downloaded a new ped from someones site, its Goaty which apparently was a ped planned for the game but SCI took it out.

Anyway I've aded its contents to the game but when I edit the settings.txt and add Goaty to any of the groups - the game wont load maps with those groups and brings up an error message of: "Boner error, the file "PED" could not be opened".

I've clearly made sure that the groups Goaty was added were changed to allow another member but I don't understand what file its refering to when it mentions "PED" as there are no single files in the game called "PED".

When you added GOATY to a ped group did you increase the number within the group?

<pre><hr>

4 // INCREASE number of peds types (was 3)

QUAR7 // Name of ped

DEER // Name of ped

SHEEP // Name of ped

GOATY // NEW PED <----

</pre><hr>

Yeah I did add in that but nothing.

I also tried removing the "// NEW PED " off the end of Goaty because the game said it couldn't open "PED" so I thought maybe it was reading the PED from that line - thinking it was something to open.

Still no luck.

Did you also added a number to the ped count just above the peds names (as you can see in Coffey's pasted part)?

Well, I still think there's a problem with the number of peds within the group.

I'm thinking it's expecting one more ped than what's actually there.

<pre><hr>

PED GROUP 11

4 // number of peds types ( but there's really only 3)

QUAR7 // Name of ped

DEER // Name of ped

SHEEP // Name of ped

//

PED GROUP 12 <---game thinks "PED" is the fourth entry from the previous group

3 // number of peds types

QUAR7 // Name of ped

DEER // Name of ped

SHEEP // Name of ped

</pre><hr>

Nope, I'm doing the amount of peds per group thing correct because I deliberately did it wrong just now (4 peds for a group that has been defined for 3) and on that the whole game crashes upon start up - No error messages or nothing.

So I decided to replace an existing ped in a group to Goaty and, well...."Boner error, Could not open file "Ped".

With that alls I did was change the name from Deer to Goaty - I didn't change anything else.

So there's a problem with Goaty itself.

Thank you Tosh. I just did a install onto CarmaLife2 with no prob either.

@Tarquin - I think the only boner error is your part

Make sure you unzipped it correctly...

Is there a

GOATY folder inside DATA/PEDS/PEEPS

GOAT_form.txt inside DATA/PEDS/FORMS

goatsounds.txt inside DATA/PEDS/SOUND

Here ya go, settings.txt attached. I've added Goaty to group 17 (as that was the example in the read me)

If I were to remove Goaty's line from that and change the number of peds for Group 17 back to 3 then it works all again...but no Goaty.

Oh and yes I have all the files in the correct locations as you described:

GOATY folder inside DATA/PEDS/PEEPS

GOAT_form.txt inside DATA/PEDS/FORMS

goatsounds.txt inside DATA/PEDS/SOUND

Sadly I wont be having Lamb chops for tea tonight - it still doesn't work.

I've also made sure that the files from the zip folder matched the locations to where Coffee-person said they should go.

I know, I'll download a different ped and see if any errors occur with that.

Oh yeah - I downloaded other ped addons and got all them to work (by doing the same thing I did with Goaty)

So for some reason Goaty refuses to work on my game.

I've double checked that the files are in the right place, they sit side by side with the other new ped files I downloaded and you guys have checked my settings.txt so what could be wrong?

I don't know. You're the only one who's ever had a problem with it.
