Fog & darkness do not work in Direct3D mode. They are only supported when using the Glidewrapper. Either use the glidewrapper, or find an old Voodoo card.

No patch will make it work under D3D.

I have a problem with fog/darkness but unlike the thread starter, I don't want it, I want to get rid of it!!!!

When ever I start a game, the fog is always there even if it was turned off in the options. I can tempuarally remove it by re-enabling the fog then resume game, then re-disabling the fog and now when I resume game the fog is gone.

But It looks horrible and I plan on increasing the view distance (YON) but each time I turn the fog on or off, it resets my veiwing distance back to 35.

Example of the horribleness (large picture and bad file hosters so it'll take a while to fully show)

I'm running the game through Glide wrapper and then using glide (as it was the only way to get the game to work)

I have 2x Nvidia 7900GS's with the latest drivers.

Well, I like fog, and atmospheric perspective, But anywho...

Forget about Fog on/off.

Just set view distance (yon factor) in your OPTIONS.TXT

in the DATA folder and make LINE 8 (Yon) higher, to like 999.

NOT LINE 1 - leave that at 1.00

Once you've edited OPTIONS.TXT you cannot access it ingame or you'll rewrite it.

That should push the draw distance and fog out to where seems like there little or no fog at all.

That's not quite what I had in mind

I wanted to remove the fog becuase I plan on increasing the view distance so in the end I'll be able to see for miles but not have fog.

But I think its strange how the fog keeps on coming back, every other option is saved into the options file. Surely the option of Fog would have been saved in there as well?

Ahh!!!

Done it,

It had nothing to do with in game options or Glide Wrapper settings.

I noticed that the fog varied between races - that was the clue.

I found out that each race holds its own fog data and so went through them all and removed it.

Also I fixed the sky for some of them imported Carmageddon 1 maps as some didn't have a sky due to either a missing file or just batenly set to "none".

So that's the end of my fog story.
