TDR2000: MAX-Pack

Post by Deamon »

Hi,

A while ago i made a patch for tdr2000 - originally intended for personal use - because i was sick of installing all patches, fixes, add-ons, etc ... everytime i installed the game again. Two friends of mine who also play tdr from time to time also appreciated this, since the patch has an easy to use installer.

Now, i was wondering if anyone else would be interested in the patch. Also, before i upload anything anywhere i want to know a couple of things:

Do i need permission from the respective authors before i upload it, because the pack contains many user created cars and stuff from many different creators.

Also, is the Nosebleed pack a free add-on? It is included in the patch so i don't know if it is legal to do so.

A list of add-ons and the respective creators is in the readme of the tdr "max-pack".

Attached "MAX-Pack ReadMe.doc" in zip file.

What the pack does/installs:

- NoCD Patch

- Nosebleed Pack + skin bug fix

- about 70 extra cars

- 2 multiplayer levels

- Gamescript editor

- ... (look in readme for more)

@ Apex: For now, mailing is not an option.

@ Dark Angel: The pack weighs in at a 225 Mb.

I can make the file available somewhere this weekend or early next week, there is still some minor work to be done. But first i would like an answer to the questions i asked earlier.

Thanx

www.megaupload.com should do just fine.

Contacting the authors to get permission would be the right thing to do - they all deserve it.

The nose bleed pack was sold, but I don't really see a problem with you including the stuff in the patch. It's not like anyone is gonna care too much if it's kept on the down-low.

Ok i will send out private messages to everyone who's creations i added to the pack. I hope none of them decline 'cause i think this pack/patch would be interesting for newbies and for the whole community. I already have ideas to take it to the next level but first things first.

You have a strange add-on cars selection if you ask me...

What about Beroc and me's HellMaster ?
I had some kind of system to choose the cars which i added, most important was that they work flawlesly but also based on overall look and quality of the cars. It is obvious that i did not add any "My first car"-cases or cars with lacking models. This was necesary for keeping the filesize below 250 Mb. Thats te same reason why Doom Arena wasn't added.

I am still adding some cars for the moment i am at 230 Mb, final will be a maximum of 245 Mb (~Compressed)

Also, many downloads on carma sites are missing/dead, and it is impossible for me to know of (or to have) al cars made for TDR out there... i have never heard of your HellMaster.

Suggestions are welcome

The TDR (patches, fixes, tweaks) part will be ok i think. But for the cars and tracks i know i don't have even near to everything. The cars already included are in my opinion really great, and, everything works fine on UK version on XP, US also probably. Other versions i can't be sure of and i need to do a win98 test also.

I will look for a server, will PM you later on.

Before making this patch final, change the compatibility for the tdr2000.exe file to windows 98, a zip file will retain the compatibility. Just leave record that it doesnt play on XP, to change that compatiblity to 98 to get it to go.

@Beroc:

I have added a separate TDR2000.exe (renamed it to TDR98.exe), that has compatibility set and has an extra shortcut in the startmenu. Since i don't have win98 i can't be sure this is needed, but it can be usefull for some people i guess.

Thx for the permission btw.

Toshiba-3 has sent me his car collection - for which i am very grateful too - and my first selection out of those, about 50 cars, will be added to the pack. I am still working on my final selection and testing will also take some time. I'm gonna need a higher level of compression for the install files :grin:.

Also, i have modified the presets.txt file to include much more, and more recent 3D card-id's. TDR2000 auto-selects the right card-preset when it profiles your system on first run. On my system it works for the "Mobility Radeon" preset i added. I can also test this later with GeForce 4 and Radeon 9250. Presets.txt is in the ASSETS directory.

I have attached the modified presets.txt to this reply. If anyone has suggestions for the "HQ" and high resolution presets to get maximum quality out of TDR, let me know. I didn't change anything i wasn't sure about. I have some questions about the subject:

- Can al values be set to 4? I don't set "Mip" higher than 2.

- What about "Tap"? I don't set that higher than 4.

- Can i set method to 32?

- Zbuffer 32?

- What more for better quality?

- Is this a good idea?

Suggestions welcome.

@ Deathrow (a.k.a. AKN): I found the Mercedes SLK230, where you worked on with Beroc if I'm not mistaking and the BMW M3, which i doubted to put it in the pack but has made it anyway. I have nothing under the name Deathrow. Thx anyway for your permission.

@ Tadmo: I will post the links when it's done.

For the testers: testing starts this weekend, you will be notified. I still need someone with an ITA/FRE/SPA/GER version to test (See my previous post above).

Theres a 1996 Honda Civic which I made and was pretty proud of. If one of my earlier cars can make it so easily I would like to put my Civic forward, it would be nice for it to have a place in Carmageddon history along with this patch.

That Civic is already included, it's also one of my favorites :grin:. I attached the updated readme file with the updated final car list, in PDF format.

It won't be released for a couple of weeks. I want a stable version with no annoying bugs before i release :crazy:, and i still have to fix and test a couple of things.

I'm re-assembling the patch now because of some error i'm getting since today which crashes TDR. Also:

- still working on the skin crash fixes for some of the user-made cars;

- i have to track down a bug in the ingame carlist that selects the car under or above the one you select, caused by a faulty carname in one of the *carname*_descriptor.txt or *carname*.txt file;

- refining the installer/uninstaller, this is very important as it adds some strings here and there;

- finishing/testing the TDR Launcher, which purpose it is to launch TDR in it's different modes (-f, -s, -dedicated -create), and to edit the options.txt file to switch between the different TDR versions and to enable blood. Also some config options like enable surround, maximum graphic quality and no music have been added.

- along with some other small things.

Im glad you like it :lol: and thanks for including it in your pack.

Somthing tells me I need to make some time to come back here and start modeling again.

EDIT: Is Tadmo2004 harassing anyone else on msn? Or is it just me?

I've been abscent here for a while, but the project is progressing nicely. Expect more news soon.

@ Tadmo: No sorry. Also: beta is posponed until further notice.

@ Deathrow: No prob, and we can always use an extra modeller for TDR in my opinion, we have some catching up to do in comparisation with c2. Some C2 to TDR (user) car conversions would be nice too.

[font color="yellow">I have a request if anyone has some spare time and wants to help me out:</font color>

Could someone make a gold and silver/metallic skin for the EagleMK4? It would be very much appreciated. Everything has to stay exactly thesame (rust, damage, details and stuff), only the (red) color changes. I've tried to do it in photoshop but i'm not a skinning artist and it didn't work out how i wanted it.

Example colors:

- Gold(255,250,0)

- Silver(180,180,180)

Uploading beta now :grin:

It will take an hour or five so i will send messages tomorrow.

If it's good enough, it will become public. More probably is that it will be an rc or finished version, near the end of next week, 'cause it's a week no school over here :beer:
