So some of you might have noticed the amazing meltpack that Dark_Pontifex uploaded. Here is the original post. And I'll throw in a nice quote with some credits:

Dark_Pontifex wrote:

finally I modified Maestros "Special Edition" (C1 and SplatPack Melt with great features)of Carmageddon to make it a perfect multiplayer version (it´s also a great single player version! Thanks a lot to Mastro!)

Win 7 (32/64 Bit) version:

Put the Folder in your programs x86 folder (64 Bit), to get it work best! If you want fullscreen, open the ddraw.ini and set the resolution of your screen. Also don´t forget to set the right path in the "Carmageddon Pontipack" shortcut. It´s already set to hires.

Win XP version:

Bugs/Glitches/quirks/FAQ:

To get the pack to work properly place it in your C:\programs(x86) Folder on a 64-bit system, otherwise place it in C:\Program Files if you have a 32-bit version of windows installed.

Feature: Sinthera's Sled and Lady B's Buggotti are missing from this pack, they have been removed by Mastro 666 due to instability issues with the pack. Unless you are proficient with this type of thing it is recommended that you DO NOT Mess with these cars, doing so WILL crash the game.

Bugs:

No known bugs at this time.

If people want to, I can make a tutorial with pictures on how to install this wonderful pack. If you feel this is needed, PM me or post in this thread with a request and I'll add pictures.

Here is a gameplay video courtesy of the BCC.

EDIT:

Most of the links here no longer work, there is still a version of the meld pack available, anno 2017, from the following link https://rr2000.cwaboard.co.uk/blog/ Thanks to toshiba-3. He also made a nice infographic for those wanting to play these retro games.[/b]

Note: I have not added or created anything for this wonderful pack all credits go out to the people involved in this pack as seen in the quote. This thread is here to create awareness and offer support. I'll try to update this post with anything that comes up as often as possible.

Hi, I tried both XP and W7 pack, and they simply crash upon launching, before the intro video.

EDIT: Well, I HAD TO put the pack in C:\Program Files (x86)\ to get it working.

Just don't do it. These cars are very unstable in the mod.

Don´t ask me why, but putting them in the x86 folder makes it work. Im grateful for this thread and your "bug" reports, so mastro, I and others can update the spacial edition/pontipack from time to zime to a supreme edition... maybe toshs gourmet project is compatible with that.

So please report your experiences, so we can fix stuff and at least put helpful information in the README

another clue: sometimes you have to deactivate all network connections beside the one LAN (or WiFi) you are using to get a Networkgame work... it took us a while to find that out. That´s why it sometimes doesn´t work with hamachi

With this pack, what do I need to play multiplayer with other people over the interwebz ? Hamachi? In that case, what is the name of the server?

Oh, by the way, when extracting the W7 pack (didn't tried the xp pack), the file "funfair1.dat" is corrupted. You should repack it (I have the file on another carma installation so it's not a problem for me).

Arnathos already told me that the file is corrupt in the W7 version, but works in the XP version. I really don´t know why, ´cause only differnce between the versions are the ddraw.dll and ddraw.ini. If you delete these two files, you should have the XP version. So please test the XP version (add the ddraw.dll and .ini) and let us know if it works. Then we can ask n3town to change the funfair1.dat

We tested it with Kali and it worked, BUT only 40% of the time it is correct sync. So for competitive gaming it´s not great at all. Tested in a LAN it´s a absolute blast. Check out the video in the Multiplayer section: http://carmageddon.com/forum/topic/11188?page=2 (before the last comment)

Thanks a lot for your feedback. We try to optimize the game continuously

I just copied the funfair.dat from the XP file, that one works, just copy, paste and overwrite it. I'll update the main post.

Oh and I tested both versions and I can confirm that it works in the XP version.

Corrupt how? And did you try both versions?

I re-downloaded the xp pack and it opened fine with winrar, if the Win 7 version is giving you trouble you will need a couple of files from hifi that can be found in this thread: http://www.carmageddon.com/forum/topic/337

Is the Win7 version working for you?? It should exactly be the same as the XP version, with one more file included...

Well I haven't had the time to re download that and check if it has any corruption issues, other then the funfair.dat file. Both versions are running fine for me, had a 3 player lan a few hours back 1 xp pc and 2 win7 PCs and had a blast.

My 8 year old son managed to kick my and his uncle's butt. The fact that he was driving the suppressor going up against the blood riviera and the fraud broko obviously had nothing to do with this :P

UPDATE: I redownloaded the win7 version and when opened with winzip it does claim unfair funfair is corrupt, it can still extract the other files. Again getting the file from the xp version solved everything.

We had a 4 player LAN today but the xp machine was crashing constantly, I was unable to get an error report but it worked fine a couple of days back, a reinstall might fix it. Meanwhile I also tested the Win7 version on a vista machine and it worked fine, except for the fact that alt tab actions seemed to freeze the game(not ctd just freeze).

So much for updates so far.

If anyone needs funfair1.dat, instead of downloading the entire XP archive, just grab the file here: http://r.carmajunkies.com/Downloads/funfair1.dat

Please note this is only a temporary fix, I'll be deleting the file soon

Myeah I'll PM ponti asking to re-upload the Win7/vista version with the proper file. But it's only a small blemish on an otherwise solid meltpack. I've had hours of fun with it already!

Stupid question, may be, but how to add original music to this pack? I tried just put MUSIC folder (from gog version) into game folder and there is no result.

The only way I've found to get music in the pack is to just put a CD into the disk player of your PC as it seems the pack tries to read music from the CD just as the original game did.

Don't need to do that; Rip the CD tracks to OGG format, drop them into a custom MUSIC folder where the CARM95.exe would be and make use of the winm.dll module

I got that from looking at the contents of the GOG release
