Input/ideas wanted from the post-apoc guys...

Post by Deep_Blue »

So I traded my big ol' V-twin Drifter for this antique Goldwing awhile back and there's only one problem...
It looks like every other one out there...Y'know...Like grandpa's 'Wing.

I wanna hear from the post-apoc stylee guys as to what ya'd do to it to make it look like something straight outta "Mad Max" or "Ruin-Nation."

I know straightaway that the color's gotta go. That's the easy part. Pinstripes went out in the 70s. A flat, mean, nasty color is definitely in order.

I want to turn it into something that people would see going down the road and think "Better not get too close to that thing."

Here's some pics (hopefully):

Throw some ideas at me, wouldya?

I'm not an expert in the post-apoc thing, but I think those chromes should go.
I'm just a lurker.

Yeah, roadkill...Either that or they need to be seriously modified and contrasted.
What I'm concerned with at this point is mods. Armor/spikes/blades, etc. That I can do-I'm just temporarily at a loss as to where to start so I figured I'd ask people for some ideas.

How about some fake rust, like in rat-rods?

I don't suppose the fairings can come off around handlebars?

What about flat black? No pinstripes?

Edit: duh, you already said no pinstripes and a color change in your first post.

No, the fairings are staying. They're an integral part of the bike (lights, digital instrument cluster, mirrors, air suspension compressor+controls, CB radio, and my stereo. My stereo ain't goin' nowhere. Heh. I finally can mix two of my three favorite things together-Bikes and rock 'n roll. Stripping it down isn't an option. Building it up/accessorizing is.
What I'd really like is JP's input....Anybody know where he's at these days?

maybe those box things on the side near the back :P could be painted like gas cans? a bit of fake rusting like the ones on ratrods here and there (as roadkill suggested), bones painted on the suspension at the front, fake spikes here and there :P and maybe a faded classic red n yellow flame paintjob. that's all i can suggest as im not that good on motorbikes!
running people over.. so many peds so little time...

Hmm...ok. Well, I gotta put the project on hold for awhile 'cause the bike puked it's final drive on the way back from the store (stripped drive/driven splines) and now I gotta go track down new parts to rebuild it.

May have to adapt a GL1500 wheel and final gearbox to it cause GL1200 parts are getting scarce the last 25 years.

OK, OK....NOW I think I'm onto somethin' here.

So the 'Wing ended up woulda cost me something like $700+ to fix (Damn differential gears stripped....So much for holeshots) and what with the cost and scarcity of parts for a quarter-century-old high end bike, I uloaded it for a grand and spent slightly less on another bike.

It's a '96 Honda VT600 VLX. It's light, agile and faaaaaaast. The perfect attack chopper.

Here's what it looked like when I got it:
stockbobbed.jpg
stockbobbed.jpg (169.39 KiB) Viewed 5717 times
I immediately began chopping stuff off of it. Rear frame section-gone. Turn signals-gone. (That's what left arms are for, dammit!)

Also, it's amazing just how many motorcycle accessories can be fabricated from an old aluminum road sign... (Kustom license tag/taillight bracket and brace, misc. mounting brackets and the mounting plate for the stereo amplifier that powering the 4 1/2" three-ways mounted in the reversed spotlight housings up on the handlebars.

And of course-two rattle-cans of high-temp matte black.

In true Road Puppy style, I'm re-using pretty much alla the parts and fasteners I chopped off the bike and whatever else I can scrounge up to customize it.

Next, the headers get wrapped and mufflers flat-blacked.

Any other suggestions?

Speakers and amp came out pretty good for a completely homemade setup. Now I got two of my three fav things combined once again. My bike-and rock 'n roll.

Gimme some more ideas, fellas.... Unpimp ma ride.

Better, no?
BTW-That's a completely homemade hypercharger onnat thing. Made from old road signs-even the adapter plate. I'm currently working on the vacuum-actuated throttle butterflies using a piece of brass rod, 2 bearings from a roller outta an old piece of office equipment, the holes I cut out of the front plate (throttle plates), a spring, a couple levers and a vacuum choke pulldown motor off a Rochester 2G carburetor.

LOL R_M. Aside from the engine, frame, tank and wheels-everythng else on this bike has been fabricated or repurposed from other stuff I either had laying around or could scrounge up. It's amazing how many motorcycle parts can be fabbed from old road signs. I even re-used every bit I chopped off the rear of the bike (used to have a rear subframe over the wheel w/ passenger pillion) including all the fasteners. In true road warrior style, 'tis a rolling scrapheap. But it does burnouts. ;)
