CWA : Resurrection

Post by Errol »

Shorter post... now only contains todo items.

- Old bbcode fixes
- Any left over HTML to be fixed?????
- The old [image]" border=0"[/image] bullshit that CWA used to do, replace it with
- text at the top of the tables on the who's online page is orange
- automatic image resizing when tags, the old CWA used to stretch the page to buggery
- board and thread titles are bold and underlined, for some reason this looks odd (was it originally like this??)
- any chance of a 'favourite threads' or 'saved threads' section in a users 'My Home' page as I used to have the C2 concept thread saved as a fave thread on the old CWA
- the FAQ page needs updating with some sections being removed and some sections from the old CWA FAQ being added
- Contact Us needs to link somewhere
Fix the historic code tags
Fix the editor... Javascript spazzes out something rotten sometimes.
Style the code and quote tags

SUPER COOL AWESOME UPDATE ACTION GO!

New stuff...
Various "Who's Online" changes.
There is a now "Mark forums read" or similar on the main page, under the forum list. Weeeeee.
New users are now confined to the "Introduce Yourself" forum. Posts in there are purged after 30 days. It will take a mod or admin to raise those noobs up and out of the pit of awkwardness.
I'm looking at doing a noob sponsorship process wherein a member with +100 posts can sponser a noob out of the pit. This will lessen the strain on admins and mods. Although currently there is no strain so balls to doing any development I don't have to.

Here be a couple more for ya':

- Avatars: min size (if any): 10x10px, max size: 64x64px (could larger images be resized to this like the original CWA???), max filesize: 10kb??
- Signatures: Limited if they are not already (500 characters or maybe shorter?)
- The reflection under avatars that CWA had (is this possible?? Maybe as a plugin for phpBB)
- User rating system (we did talk about not bothering with this useless feature)
- Thread rating system (I thought this was a useful feature but if it's too much work it could just go the same way as the user rating system and get left out)
- Page navigation at the top and bottom of threads
- Put the mod/admin usernames on the index page and the extra information section like the old CWA

Congratulathanks for the hard works and efforts it took to resurrect the behemoth of the CWA archives... twice!

N3wt: D'ya think it's worth getting a second domain (cwaresurrection.com ? :) ) so you've got a full control route now you're hosting, as a backup plan to avoid any ugliness in the future?

You can't, yet. I've been bugging Errol for a while to add this, I'm sure he'll give in soon and add it. :tongue:

SPAM alert.... :/

Seem to be getting spam accounts registering already and posting.

Matt seriously a new domain may be worth while especially if the spam continues?

A new domain will be a temporary solution. We can't change domains every 3 months.

The manual activation of accounts was why we put in manual activation in the first place. It's a hassle, but it's the only surefire way to make sure nothing gets through.

Otherwise, reCaptcha is a solution, but that doesn't work very well lately either.

One of my friends used 'out of displayed 3 select fluffy animal'. Maybe you can code 'out of 3 images select carma related'

I don't suppose anyone has any screenshots of the old CWA while they were logged in? Things don't feel quite right around here and I'm pretty sure it's all "logged in" functionality I can't recreate using the wayback machine.

No, I know I don't. Only things I can see that seem missing is the link to PayPal for donations and the links for the posts within 24 & 48 hours. Can't think of much else that's missing.

Thanks again BTW for the work you're doing... :thumbsup:

Greatings on doing thy job. You should check some threads (or scan database if used more widely) for invalid bbcodes and replaces some of them though :D Good luck :)

BUMP.

Ok an update.

-so the devWAM theme is done. Still misses the news portal though, dunno what to do yet.
-added a youtube tag.
-fixed those goddamn lightblue colors in cat' styles.
-did some panel cleaning.
-changed some icons (dark and blue there).
-tweaked the styles a bit (padding, colors, borders etc.)

-enabled a q&a at registering, this prevents the spambots from registering so I disabled Errol's countermeasure (newly rgistered users had to post and be approved etc.). Registering is easy now. Introduce Yourself topic moved into General Discussion forum.

-PM notifications are fixed now. (I hope!)

-added a cwa-narrow theme which limits the width of the board to 990px wide. You can select it in your board preferences.

's all!

UPDATE AGAIN.

Lemme see...

-you all noticed it, I added Alex' smileys to the lot;
-the search function works correctly now, goes through old posts and all;
-cleaned the cwa-narrow style some more, don't hesitate to test it;
-moved the Gen Disc forum back between C1/2 Edit and TDR2000;
-added the Latest news from devWAM list at the top;

If you have any comment, I'm all listening, esp. about the last point. Anything really.

Last thing I'd really like to do, is bringing the lost Ruin Nation forum back into The Vault.

Massive amount of cookies for you mister T!

I don't think there is much to pimp after you have brought back the lost forum topics to the vault... Our C2 community's best meeting point is pretty much complete already. Great work.

Maybe the devWAM forum should also have this by default? The folder icon and the Machnachem logo seem a bit too much together. Red machnachem logo for new topics, grey machnachem logo for no new topics?

but maybe I'm just pushing it now... :sbsmile:

Infos: after a first try to import the old Ruin Nation forum back, I had to restore a backup from yesterday (the one I did today right before the changes was corrupted and I noticed that when it was too late...).
SO, there are a handful of posts missing:
-the awesome topic Maxine started about her alternate carmageddon
-comments on Coffeycup's Jeep
-a post by Matt in the newbie sticky topic.

Sorry about that... :ssad:

RUIN NATION FORUM ADDED.

We're done now :sbsmile:
Too bad I lost these last posts in the process.
Also I thought the forum would have contained the Ruin Nation 2 project (the one led by Beroc and built on Torque) but sadly the posts stop around 2004 when the forum was made public.
Better than nothing I guess. The rest is lost forever :ssad:

Cool, thanks. Hopefully Maxine will repost her awesome alternative C2 skins.

BTW, does anyone know what's going on with the cwaboard.com domain name? Did it get re-registered? I thought it had because 'cwaboard.com' started working again for a few days after it initially disappeared but now it's gone again? People in the know use the co.uk addy, but I don't think everyone knows about that alternate URL.
