Holy crap! You guys remembered! I haven't had the old Legos out for a while now.

That program looks to be worth a try. I use to use MLCAD, but that hasn't been updated in ages.

Hey, great Idea tosh! And... it worked like a charm! I had to change a couple of settings in the ini files for the GLI_concept plugin OGLE to work, but the when I finally got an output it was great. There are small downsides however, that might affect your idea of having elements fly off, because;

Most bricks with the same colour are one object, and the little attachement nobs of lego are missing when bricks are placed on top of them, if you know what I mean. So if a brick would fly off, you would have to make manual nobs for the bricks underneath... I don't think this is a lot of work, but still...

Another thing is you have to orient the model within max again, but I don't think that's such a big deal. I did it manually just now...

Image

But I think with a little bit of effort, this idea of yours could work out just fine! We should try some cars. Anyone want to recreate the Eagle3 from the above image?

Car over here at rapidshare because it just exceeded the upload limit...

http://rapidshare.com/files/179943800/l ... t.zip.html

edit; wow, make this one red and you're allmost done...

A remake of C2 all done in Lego would be extremely funny and also pretty cool.

I see, well if Maxine, and Random_Monkey could upload the lxf files, then I will convert them to max.

hm, oh, by the way, would it be possible to get change the peds to mini figures? The animations might not fit well, but perhaps a minifig leg could only be animated as the upper leg of a carmageddon ped, and the same goes for the arms. This way the whole leg will move like the upper leg of a ped, and a invisible dummy lower leg would do I guess? Could that be done?

That's interesting. But seems to make a really hi polycar that, in the end, looks low poly!

Dunno, guess I just don't get the whole Legos Star Wars/Batman appeal. But I wouldn't mind running down a mini fig, if one was crossing the street.

Well, I tried out the Lego Digital Designer and was disappointed. I though it would have more bricks than MLCAD! Sure, it's got some of the newer pieces,

but thats about it. I also doesn't have the tools that MLCAD has, such as the useful Minifig Builder.

I use to have some bricks I made in CarEd, but lost them. I'll probably try again in the future, but I'm not sure how to to the studs(what the bumps on top

of the bricks are called). 2D studs would be easy to duplicate and save on pollies, where as 3D studs would look better, but could create lots of pollies on

models with lots of bricks and be more difficult to duplicate when making different bricks.

I played with this for a bit. the fact that all the bricks are not available in all the colors is limiting for artistic and model building, and I wish there were technic pieces for the machine end of it.

actually I wish I could find the pics I took of a couple of scratch-built things I made back in the day.
If it runs, drives, stops, has a title, AND is under $300, I'll take it!

Yeah I was also very dissapointed by the lego factory brick palette. It is way too small... If only the newer bricks would be available in MLCAD everything would be fine, but now we are limited either way.

I used to created maps with lego for half life a long time ago. Most of the stuff is lost though, which really sucks, but some of the maps I still have. Too bad I lost the pirate ship though... some images over here

I would still like to see a minfig ped ingame with the idea I had in mind. I just don't know if I could do it, since I've never done a ped before. Maybe tosh can do it a lot faster...

Isn't there 1,000 poly (or is it nodes?) limit per component?

I've probably not explained myself very well but I've forgotten the terminology

I have had that problem too. Everthing named correctly (well usually), hierachy set up right and still crashed. Only thing that worked for me was starting from scratch and reimporting and praying

Yes,that was also my problem with the tracks I made. If only Plaything 2 would behave more like C2, you could easilly detect the problem. Too bad you can't find the problem, it can be a real motivation killer when you get stuck like that...

Here is an attempt at Hawk 3 and Tashita 2.

Please note that on the Hawk the cream and red bricks should be orange (but these bricks weren't available in orange)

and on the Tashita the yellow bricks should be white (but these bricks weren't available in white)

Please note the two red bricks above the wheels are supposed to be white but again these bricks were not available in white!

hehe, I have to say, these models are really cute. They all represent the real models a great deal. You should try some bigger ones, the truck or the plow. The screwy allready looks neat, but I wonder how the other big cars turn out.

still wonder how that ped is doing...

Shouldn't Lady B be longer in the bonnet? Seems like the proportions are a little off.

Looks like you're having fun though.
