The father is a idiot for letting his son drive that. Well, lessons learnt the hard way.

Slightly off topic, but I seem notice alot that Americans in general make a big deal about driving a manual transmission vehicle. They're not really that hard to drive.

ROTFL! Great video!

Americans make a big deal about driving stick-shift because they can't get over how hard it is to get the car moving in 1st gear. That's pretty much the hardest thing you'll ever do in the car (besides a hill start) so I can see why they don't want to learn. But those that switch to autos do it because 1) they don't want to deal with driving a stick in rush hour traffic and 2) they have health problems or disabilities which makes driving a stick impossible.

It kinda reminds me of the time I went to Vegas and got to drive a brand new Corvette. I paid $5 to drive a Corvette 2 laps around a track. There was a semi-long line outside at the tent. I walked up to the guy at the tent and gave him my ticket and he asked me if I wanted to drive a manual or auto. I told him I wanted a manual and he immediately sent me to the front of the line because there was a manual Corvette idling! Apparently the semi-long line was a bunch of guys wanting to drive an automatic Corvette! Where's the fun in that?!

I agree that starting in 1st gear is hard, but about 30 minutes or less of practice, it gets fairly easy. As for the whole traffic thing, I've heard that lots of times before. I drive alot in traffic and I don't mind having to shift gears constantly. After a while you get to a point that you don't even notice your doing it.

$5 for 2 laps in a 'Vette!? That's for nothing!

I'm still amazed at how many people think that driving manual is hard. But I guess if you've been taught to drive an automatic, and you've been driving an automatic your whole life, it could be hard.

I've been driving only manual ever since I got my license, and I've tried a few autoboxed cars.

And when I think about it, the hardest thing I've had to do in a manual was a reverse mountain start. But even that is ridiculously easy if you remember that you actually have a handbrake.

As for the vid - saw it a few days ago. Priceless.

driving a automatic is rather special where i live hehe, only lazy people and people with medical issues/old people drive it. driving lessons are always given in manual driven cars, or unless u have a good reason, or u really wanna drive automatic, it can be changed, but then again, not all driving schools have automatic cars...

Same here. Manuals are pretty much dominant in Europe (and may it stay that way as well ), while autos dominate the likes of North America and Japan.
