Challenge 3: Hot Rodding Hell

Post by Beroc-Lord of Destruction »

Hot Rod Hell

Rules:

A HotRod Challenge would be nice! Ill enter my Pickup LoL.

A simple, older-styled car, thats made to go fast.
Keeping this in mind... Let me institute the rule of "No prebuilt meshes". It wouldn't be much of a challenge, if you didn't have to do anything!

OK, a 1920's to 1980's Hot Rod. Which by term is a stock car that has been souped up. We should keep the same polycounts, 6000 for the model and 300 for each wheel. The competition will be judged on polygon structure alone, textures are not nessecary, just the final model.

Time: This challenge will end 11:59:00 pm, Saturday, August 5th GST.

Final Status: Let's change this to 2 800x600 pixel images, your choice of angles and content. The pictures should be of the model untextured.

You must supply WIP pictures in this thread.

Good luck all.

Tis ok TTR, it is a good challenge... two weeks to build a mesh, not bad, plenty of time.

I am, of course, entering too....

heh, that would not be a challenge for alot of people. it is very easy to convert... much harder to create.

Recreating somthing from scratch when its already been made is incredibly boring believe it or not.

I am entering my alredy made Pickup, because im on vacation for a week (thursday to next thursday) so i wont be able to work on it. I would like to see what these guys can do with a higher poly limit, though... Unless its only 6000 for only the shell?

6000 is the limit because that is what TDR and C2 can really handle well. If we were creating stuff for GTA, it would be different. Aside from that, having an ungodly poly limit doesnt really help the CarEd guys.

heh, you could compare 8000 or so polygons to 1.5 million.... max users can do a whole bunch....

Good aggressive angle Deathrow... keep it going....

I don't think I'll be entering this one, I'm crunched for free time lately and want to spend it on some of my own projects.

I'm not looking to start a flame war, and I know it's because I'm in a foul mood tonight but...

I sorta feel like there's a double-standard going on here. I entered the last two challenges and neither were even acknowledged.

The first challenge the only thing I didn't do was convert it to polys. Second one, I admit I never completed, but at least I made

an honest attempt and started from scratch. For other people the rules are bent so as to include rehashes of already built models.

I don't get it.

Actually, the rehashing of models is what I am trying to get rid of. It needs to be a challenge from scratch... I totally agree.

However, Bruner and myself actually made scratch models for these competitions, or at least that is how I took it. Doesnt matter though, if there were more people posting, I am sure we would get the rules down and pat real quick...

As far as polycounts and flame wars. I am not really gonna get into it. we said our peace, hopefully it is over.

I am more interested in what people have to post as far as models and stuff. I saw a couple of starts last challenge, I hoping that these people decided that they will either finish the model they started there, or try again here.

And... btw... you should finish that transport (the second one) it really looks sharp.

Did a bit of work on my truck. lowered it, gave it a dragster slant, and shortened the box. I got some ideas for it.

Looks good, add a bunch of horizontal cuts down the side though, as right now your smoothing looks pretty bad because of its flatness.

I totally agree... those square headlights are throwing me for a loop too.

Concerning the car though... good job, about the only thing that I can think of would be a vertical cut along the door, so that it will smoosh properly...LOL

I always tend to make the door with a single cut down the middle, so that it will at least indent when hit... course TDR isnt like C2 and that really doesnt matter.. but oh well, that is what I do. I should really put more work into the collision meshes and figure out a good one that will deform correctly at the doors without affecting game play.
