cycle fleet!

Post by autopilot »

I thought I'd show off my nice rusty cruisers for any old bike fans.. I'd love a 40s/50s bike, but they elude my gleanings, can't complain though, cause I love these.

The gold (My favorite) is a mid 60s I presume CCM Catalina, it originally had white walls, but the rear one was gone and replaced, and the front was pretty worn out, so I put some different wheels/rims on it (spray painted flat black). the handlegrips arent original either, as they were pretty bad, and the seat also had to go, as it was bad)

The middle one is a 1966 CCM imperial Mark IV, the fenders arent original though, nor is the seat (its original seat is on the catalina).

And you met the other CCM (not sure of name), the chainguard aint original, as it didnt have one when I got it, but this bike is likely from the early 80s, when CCM went bankrupt and the name was sold. Its the fastest and most comfy, so its good on long cruises!

Nice bikes man, and there is good condition. My grandparents have a few old bikes from the 20's and 30's, I'll have to take a few pics of them aswell, share them with the world!

You've amassed an impressive empire of fine cyclery! Whilst I still posses but a single '64 (?) Hercules...now in working order with non-functional headlight / generator removed and original chaingaurd reattached. As well as a front wheel and kickstand donated from an early 80's women's racing bike!

Image

and of course the still present handlebar grips from an 80's bmx...coated in electrical tape!

Wow auto, i really really like the gold bike, it excellent.

Econo, would that be an amf herculese? If so, i had a similar modle, but it was a womans frame and i think it was built into a tall bike by some one else.

I'm definately going to photo up some rides later....

I have 4 bikes like that .. all from "Hudson" bikes .. and an older styled CCM, tho the CCM has handbrakes, and one of the Hudson's also has handbrakes .. but two of the bikes dont even have the old handbrakes

I'll have to get a picture soon.

As far as I know, it's not an AMF... but the crest on the back fender does say Nottingham, England. Which I guess would mean it's from the time after Raleigh bought Hercules. I figure it's either slightly pre-AMF, or it's straight from England. As alot of the products in NL came from over there in them days!? I'm assuming it's the latter.

Heh, must remember to ask my Dad the exact year of it...he's told me pretty much everything about it, but I keep forgetting to ask him that.

There used to be a metal crest attached to the front of the frame. Wish it still had that...

I am sure it is a bf goodrich, I own two of these bikes, my other one doesn't have a tank tho. I kinda did a rat rod sorta resto to it

all the parts from the resto came from the trash and from the parts pile my bike gang has built up..... no money wasted in this. I think before i consume.

Ah yes, the spacelander! those are pretty neat, imagine all the weird looks you'd get riding one of those. I was talking to econo recently about how they would look great completely rusted, though the "shell" is made from fiberglass, so its just not possible. There is a prototype of one of those that has an aluminum shell though, but ah, just the 1, I doubt whom ever has that would let it rust!

update! new item acquired: A '75 Raleigh "Sports"...'tis a bit new i guess, but the color is neat and it's in rather good shape...even has a bit of nice rust for good measure. Wasn't bad for $20 canadian i guess. Especially since old bikes around here seem to be slim to nil?! i think i just lucked into this.

Would've been alot neater to have found something older in a junk yard and piecing it together i guess rather than buying it as is, but like i said around here it's slim pickin's! unless you're into those 70's racing bikes...

Nice find! I too had a good stroke of luck today and found this bueaty for $5. I think it could be a goodyear, but I'm not totaly sure. It has the most unique rear end i have ever seen. It is ugly, but beautiful in the same aspect.

Do those old bikes have a ratcheting rear axle or do you move the pedal backward to brake?

most of them you pedal backward to brake. Don't know when handbrakes came into existence with bikes. but there are alot of older looking bikes like that with handbrakes too. But, I believe the ones without handbrakes are older. On the ones I own you pedal backwards .. but theres not much strength there now

i once had a friend with a schwin (spelling?) and he was dicking around with the braking on the

back rim to make it so it was a free spinning wheel, and he was standing up and went to bedal backwards

and it flipped him over the handel bars

I'd ride a girls bike if it was nice enough, they're usually fancier anyways! Actually I saw a bitching CCM ladies bike from the 50s about a week ago outside a storage shed, I didnt have enough time to inquire to maybe buy it or whatever, but im gonna go back there someday soon when ive got some extra cash and see if I can get 'er.

I also took a look at a bike close up Ive always had my eye on, turns out its a girls bike (i always thought it was mens from afar, as I couldnt see the front half), and a schwinn (which is weird to see in Canada) but its not vintage, its just one of those look-a-like old bikes, I like the white wall tires, but its pretty ugly otherwise:

I find those new motorcycle look a like bikes kinda dumb, but thats just me.

I like those 70s "muscle" bikes thouhg. Here in Canada CCM made a knock off of the sting ray called the Mustang, I saw a 13 or so year old riding around on one of em a few times the past few weeks, that puts a smile on my face, at least one kid seems to be on the right track and will grow up right!

I'd like to get one myself for the occasional ride.
