Fuel Prices.

Post by The_Bollocks »

I have noticed that alot of the people on this forum are from alot of various countries around the world. I just want to know what the fuel prices are in the country where you live, and just too see if we are completely ripped of here in Ireland. A litre of petrol now costs about an average €1.02, (and that is for 95 octane as well, which is the lowest octane you can get in this country), and diesel is about the same, and it isn't going to get any cheaper either.

So how bad (price wise) is fuel in where you're from?

Macedonia.

1 euro for a litre of unleaded, 90 cents for a litre of diesel.

Yes, diesel is cheaper.

That used to be the case here, but diesel is now dearer (only by about a cent or so).

well, on average here its about $1.10AU. 98 is about $1.20 and good old LPG is $0.55

i think we need to change out fuel supply to methanol or some other alcohol because it can be growen and just use cude oil as lube or not at all but this will not happen because oil companies are money hungry.

Bio-diesel is the future, aka sunflower oil. They ran an old diesel Volvo on sunflower oil on Top Gear a few years ago to prove it could work, and it did. It's meant to be cheap aswell, you can get your fuel from a fast food restruant.

Ah yes, but they also ran a dinky old rover on cow poo (tm) and it ran reasonably well.

Actually, I think that hybrids are the future, or hydrogen-powered cars.

Well, I guess everywhere is bad. Here's around $2 (Pesos) the litre of 98-100 octane fuel, 95 octane is around $1,8. Because of the devaluation, it's actually "cheaper" here, if you consider that U$S 1 = $ 2,95 Pesos, we're paying like U$S 0,80 a liter. The problem is, everyone gets their salary in Pesos

The last time I noticed the fuel prices, I saw the unleaded price: 1,42 Euro's. Diesel was something like 1,09 Euro's. But that was two weeks ago, and like everywhere the price is raising everyday.

leeme see... 11-12Skr for 1 litre, at the current dollar rate is 7-1... ie about 1,7dollars for a litre...

diesel is about 7-8skr (1dlr)... wich is cheaper... BUT if your wehicle isnt registerd as a truck (light truck, basicly you arent alowed to have more than 3 peps in the car, and it must have a certain large cargo space and a fixed WALL between the cab and cargo) you get a anual tax on... alot of money... 200-500 us dlrs... so if you are going to go on + by using a diesel... you gotta drive... ALOT

Christ Newton... I'm with Dark on this one - that's what it is around here.

(Dark is in south Wales, I'm in the East Midlands)

On a side note, I read something in the paper the other day about Ford running cars of Ethanol, produced from Wheat. (Apparently 80% of recent-model Ford Focus' in Sweden are already running on it)

Yeah, they mentioned that on Top Gear a few shows back, but as usual, they made a joke out of it. They said that the fuel is made from sugar and wood (which is to some extent true, I guess), and Richard Hammond noted that where he comes from, people would probably drink that.

Pretty nifty idea though. Arguably, the fuel is renewable, unlike oil, so it probably will be good on a long-term scale.

Oh, and keep in mind that Newton does drive a Focus RS, and I assume he goes for higher-grade petrol.

Only real problem with ethanol, which is basically pure alcohol, is it's price. I think it averages around €5 a litre, but I could be wrong, but it is definetly far more expensive than petrol.

Here in northern Nevada, it's $2.56 for regular 87 octane. Takes about $25 to fill up my tank. It'll last me for a month.

Still though, $2.56 per US gallon works out to be 67 cents per litre, beats us Irish (and the rest of Europe) any day.

its only expensive because the oil companies make it but im sure once the oil runs out, oil companys will build sugar farms or something.

over here is illegal to use alcohol on the road.

Ford have used alcohol fuel before with the 1994 Mustang Boss, had like a switch it change it from petrol to alcohol and once it was on alcohol is produce 15HP more then on petrol.

but i so hope that when the oil supplys have depleated, we move onto alcohol and not somehting pussy like electric

"Ford have used alcohol fuel before with the 1994 Mustang Boss"

The Model T ran on a combination of Ethanol and Petrol. You'd've thought it would've been around /long/ before now.

On a side note, I've always wondered what would happen in the way of rubber and plastic when the oil all runs out. Well, I was eating a sarnie today, and noticed that it said "100% Recyclable" on the side. Considering it had one of them plastic windows, I read on. Turns out the plastic is made out of corn starch, and is biodegradable within 14 weeks. Talk about hi-tech!

There are quite a few cars on the road that run on Ethanol. The Ford Taurus has a flex-fuel engine as an option that runs on straight gasoline, straight methanol, straight ethanol, or a mix. The problem is that like Ethanol makes 15% less energy than gasoline so it uses more of it. That means less MPG, but it's cleaner for the environment.
