Most anticipated RPGs?

Post by aj142 »

In thinking about how I would invent the ultimate RPG if I could, it occurred to me that maybe there are some games coming around the corner that may tide me over for at least a little while longer…! Does anybody know what games are coming out soon that are at least as good as FF, Morrowind, etc., if not better?

Man, I've been looking. Hard. And, there isn't a damn thing. Just a lot of MMORPG sequels, and there's no way I'm gonna pay $10+ a month to put up with lag, lots of assholes, and another tedious level treadmill.

How is Morrowind, by the way? Every day I wake up and say "Today I'm buying Morrowind no matter what!!" and a ham sandwich always distracts me.

You have Fallout? If not, get them and hate all other RPGs.

What you describe sounds like Deus Ex. In that case, wait for the sequel to come out. It's supposed to be really damn good.

See, the problem I have with most RPGs is the action. Morrowind, like many others, is great for the sheer size and variety of possibilities. However, it's not like GTA3 or HALO in the sense that you really feel like you're there. Why can't they combine the action of an adventure game with the size and complex story of an RPG? I guess I'd like to see an action game where you can interact completely with the environment and choose from an endless variety of possible events / circumstances so that the game can end in multiple ways - more like real life, only with the setting / weapons / situations of whatever fantasy you prefer.

Mostly people got their hopes way to high up for TDR2000. Removing some of the more anticipated features (destroyable drone cars for one) hurt a bit. Although, I still love the game. Has everything I wanted in a Carmageddon sequel and more. Keep in mind I try to think realistically when it comes to sequels, and newer games in general. Take the promised feature list and cut it in half. Take the minimum requirements and double it. Now you have something that's pretty accurate to the final product.

Maybe because Deus Ex was released on the PC a few years ago when game engines were nothing like they are now...

If you played it on the console then you missed out on a lot. Is there a Deus Ex PS2 port? That console is limited to resolutions of 640x480.

Actually, I rented Dues Ex and quit playing it 10 minutes in. I'm sorry, but I just will NOT tolerate sub-standard graphics anymore. With games out like GTA3/VC, HALO, MOH, Metal Gear Solid, etc., there's NO reason to "digress" to games like Dues Ex, where maybe the story and gameplay is pretty good, but the game engine and graphics are already obsolete. You guys should read the game description for HAVEN - it's probably more cartoony than most people want to see, but the freedom of exploration, the sheer size of the worlds and the various modes of gameplay make this a game that we'll hopefully see more of. Read this and tell me what you think: http://www.haven.midway.com/

Well, I wouldn't dispute the point that the PC version is probably cleaner. Still, the environments, format, etc. - like you said, it just doesn't compare to new games. I played it on PS2, but I don't know what you mean by "does it have a PS2 port?" Did anyone take a look at the HAVEN description? I'm curious to know if anyone else finds that game as intriguing as I do (minus the cartoonish style).

What about a Civil War game? Does anyone agree that a game which accurately recreates parts of the Civil War would be pretty cool? Seems to me that just about any war would make a good game, but the Civil War in particular sounds interesting to me.

A game set in the Civil War sounds interesting. There's been way too many WW2 games/mods these past few years.

What I'd like to see is a MMORPG type game set in the Ancient Mediterranean(sp?) with Egypt, Rome, and the Gauls (barbarians) as playable "classes". Romans are under the rule of Caesar or whatever, Egyptians under Cleopatra, and I don't know about the Gauls. Basically, as a Roman or Egyptian you serve as any kind of soldier in the army during war. When there aren't any major battles going on you can play just like any other RPG and wonder around making friends or enemies, do shit, trade, buy nicer weapons, and whatever else.

If you're a Roman, since they're great at plundering shit, you get to keep whatever you find in enemy cities after a major battle is won.

As the Gauls, you fight very differently. You and your buddies live in tribes up north and occassionally raid cities. They look scary as hell with all sorts of nutty costumes. Oh yeah, you can also be hired as a mercenary for struggling empires.

I just thought of all that shit in the last minute and it's more innovative than 90% of the MMORPGs ever made.

In the game, does being a Roman get you the perk of orgies ???

I had a RPG idea a while back cented around the porn movie industry. you started with little money. you would have to recrute people for the movie, find locations, buy equipment and finally 'direct' the film. then you would release it and if it made enough money you could do another bigger budget film with either the same people or new faces. If you used the same actors you ran the risk of them getting discovered and charging you too much money to make a film, or they would move on the liget movies.

i would also want your 'finished product' to be able to be exported as either an in-game movie (ala: GTA3) or a mpeg movie.

It would not be made as a cheesy game, but a top quality product (even if the subject matter is raunchy)

but ive had no investers who would want to step out in this direction

any takers on this board ????
