Japanese PixEdit 060

Post by QTZ »

PixEdit 060 is Japanese C2 pix tool that can convert pix to bmp and bmp to pix including transparency mask.
It's useful to convert PT2 pix files - as we can read here.

Since there is no information what other buttons does I have translated original help files to English.
pixedit060_english_help.zip
(3.42 KiB) Downloaded 104 times
This is automatic G. Translator translation, so language is strange, but can be understand especially when looking at screen-shots - just put the file to program directory and read from there. Help describe how to use transparency mask which may be useful when making glass or partially transparent textures.

Also here is Short manual made by me:

1. pix/bmp file preview (stretched)
2. go to previous file (uncheck 7. to avoid crash)
3. go to next file (uncheck 7. to avoid crash)
4. file description: file name, resolution, bit depth, mask present

5. Open... pix/bmp
To see 8bit pixelmaps you need DRACEFLC.PAL and DRRENDER.PAL placed in program directory - extracted from Palettes.twt.
6. Save bmp/pix (current dir)
When pix is opened - save button save .bmp and _m.bmp (when ticked)
When bmp is opened - save button save .pix from .bmp and _m.bmp (when ticked and _m.bmp exist) - you can create your own fname_m.bmp.
The question on save is "overwrite" warning.
7. Include mask - check to export/import transparency mask (as pink in C1) "fname_m.bmp" (with "_m")
due to program crash this must be unchecked when pressing previous/next buttons

8. Preview current file in full size 1:1 (close button is above picture)
9. List images from current directory (bmp or pix) - preview "touched" files only ??? (close button is at the top - may need to scroll)
it crash when there is no bitmaps or when there are 8bit only???, also this need some time to load.

Thanks for starting a new topic for this.

I don't see the advantage of using this tool over more sophisticated tools like Paint Shop or PhotoShop.

But the beauty of doing things is there are many ways of getting stuff done. We all have our way that works for us. Use what you feel comfortable with. If you want to work using PIX instead of TIFFs then do it. Whatever works.

I don't thing Paint Shop or Photo Shop can save pix. This tool can save pix from pair of bmp (fname.bmp and fname_m.bmp) which you need to create in external program (like this two) or from such bitmaps exported from pix.

Ok but we never need to export to PIX for C2 though.
