Yeah.. this kinda is as bad as the title sounds.

Im pretty bad at rembering to back up files. and as of Sunday afternoon. the 8 and a half year old hard drive in my main old computer failed. Really failed, total

nothingness. im going to try some tricks and all ive been told.. real stupid desperation stuff like putting it in the freezer. it wont work but.. hey Why not.

So.. Because of this setback and crushing feeling ive got (no kidding, I did cry a little) I reluctantly give up my main hobby of carmageddon1, and 2 modding, Its silly to

cry over a pc right? well.. not if hours on hours of your creations are vaporised before anybody could see them.
so I just want to talk about what I was planning for you guys, and show some survivor pics that were uploaded previously. Not to rub in the fact that youll never play it, but

I want someone to atlease See what ive done before it fades totally out of existence, like my long topic about that KK game that never was.

Truck me 1.3
Oh this was going to be the crown on the truck mod I had done, I used flaps to get working a trailer hitch you could attatch, and detatch, by using the Door button, it all

worked nicely and after I tweeked the physics a little you could drive around all day with a trailer, there was also new maps planned, reskins of old C1, and C2 maps, but

also totally new stuff Very small maps, but maps all the same.

The orignal release I planned was going to have sevral trucks, to fit sevral maps, and trailers to fit.
These were going to be, USA, modern day, USA 1950, Australia, Germany, and Germany in winter.
The maps were mostly C1 orignals with reskins and higher res textures.

Comercial district:
Same as the orignal this was set in one of the orignal C1 citys, the textures had been alterd from the version I uploaded.
This had a whole set of working drones.

Fright yard:
Just like the orignal The freight yard was a reskinned Splat Track, tho from the version I released this had alterd textures to make it look more.. Modern next to the 50s.
With working drones accurat to the area.

Freight yard 1950:
Still set in Splat Track
Set to have more drones, but had one working.

Euro truckers Germany:
Set in the other carmageddon1 city, this was a nice modern german looking skin, with dark black cleane roads, brightly painted markings, and trailers scatterd around the

construction areas and such, this too had apropriate drones.

Germany Winter:
Same as previus map but with winter snow coverd skin, less traction, and a couple of truck skins to go with the cold weather.

Roadtrain Run:
MaxMap from deep blue, mostly left as it was, Minor changes

Long Haul:
Reskinned MaxMap, to look more grassy, this was soposed to be set in america but still have the long distances betwene trailers.

Truck park:
My first.. fully working map. This had working distant traffic, wich were a couple of cars, and bunch of trucks, Because the traffic drones were set to allways visable they

added a really nice touch of ambiance to the map,traffic apeard to constantly flow on the road outside the yard, (as youll see in screenshots) but was never there to be

interacted with. I really liked how it turned out.

Trucks:

The truck models were touched up, the textures were alterd, and a bunch were added Every truck had 3 paintjobs to choose from. I dont think I took pics of them all but heres

a list.

Kenworth K100:
the first starter truck.. This is where the mod came from. and it was still ingame. This time the radio antenas on the front bumper of the custom version swayed around by

using suspensuion settings on them.

Freightliner Century:
I did improve the textures on this, but apart from that its.. pretty much the same model. I added more crap to the rear but the basic model and colors were all left the same.

Kenworth W900:
Again the same with mroe detailed lights and such added to the rear, and the traielr 5th wheel ofcorse.

Mack Series L:
Same as the orignal download, But with trailer hitch, and two alternate skins, wich were Blue/Yellow, and Red/Black

Ford F6:
New truck I added, I liked it too, fortunatly its model lives on.. I actully used it as a base for the F100 I released in C1, I dont see it as cheating I see it as recycling.

American Lafrance:
The firetruck addon mod and its two colors were added into the mod, Fire trailers were placed in the Comercial District map.

Mercedes Benz Actros:
Newly added for the german map it was a simple model but looked ok to me, The textures were a little basic and stretched on the cab But I like the euro feel it gave off. Also

came with a snow splashed skin for the winter map.

Scania:
This was.. I dont recall the model number, R600, 620, 700 something like that. but it was a Two axled Scania V8, it was the fastest truck in the mod and had great power. I

wanted to simulate the scania truck that the europians Love so much, the model was perhaps a little over simplistic But I still liked it,

Freightliner Century Roadtrain:
This turned out just having bars on the front at first, then mutated into a fully moded accurate to photos roadtrain, with bug shield, 3D bars insted of the texture, and two

extra fuel tanks as I saw on the real life versions.

Kenworth W900 Roadtrain:
Same as above, Modded and skinned for that australian vibe.

Dodge Ram:
The dodge ram truck with 5th wheel attatchment was added, there were some small trailers to be towed by this, including a mobile home, and gardner trailer compleate with

tools and lawnmower.

Yard tractor:
I dont rember the make or model off the top oh mah head, but I did make a tractor (for those who dont know this is a small truck for moving freight around a yard) Came out

nice, had 3 skins, and a modeld interior. that was only visable from cab view. it was the slowest of all the trucks but the most manoverable. I could really eaisly park

trailers Anywhere on my Truck Park map.

Abba Cab:
Easter egg truck, right at the end of the list, this is just the truck from C2, but with towing ability,

Motehr trucker II:
Same as above.

Trailers:
Holy crap... Too much stuff to list, there were over 80 trailers in all.
Ranging from car transporters with more modern cars, to old car transporters, log trailers had been improved, and there was a bunch for germany and the 50s too including a

very long flatbed. and a combine harvister hauler for Long haul. - Pretty much every trailer had been remodeld on photos of real ones, to make them as accurate as possible.

so without further hesitation... Heres some screenshots.. Luckily for me, I was showing someone a couple of things and these were uploaded a day before the death. and some

images have been around for a while.

Shame, one of my favorites this was, the trailers, and the trucks, I had real life logos on sevral of the round nosed trailers, and 1 to 2 axel versions with diffrent lengths

Ah, well here it is, shame I never got a pic of the winter version. but still this is how it looked, there were also plenty of trailer colors, including diffrent chemical

tankers, it felt very euro truck simulator.

trailer.. I wanted to blow your mind with bounding box physics.. but I wanted to keep it a secret so it was never taken in any pics,

Drones:
Heres a picture I took while catologin all my drones.. I think I had some drone OCD but I did that.
You can tell where they were set to apear due to the plates, White plates are modern, green plates were for the 50s, and clearly the ones with europian plates apeard in

germany.. Im picky with plates.. I spotted those russian cars in C.O.D london, and american van in france.

S.O.D Vans.

Oh my god man.. this was soposed to be such a cool mod, I had made scenery and all that, as you saw, there were vans and trucks, and towtrucks outside the arena to see,

higher res textures,

So lets see what we can see from these shots.

In this shot you can see a Toyota Hiace, in red, a blue vaxhaul combo, citroen berlingo in pink, and the transit and mercedes bus I had shown previusly.

Oh and one added feture was I put the wheel texture in the race track folder.. so when racing on mod.. vans had muddy wheels.. just another feture ive never seen before.. it

worked perfectly too.

I loved that RV, I took lots of pics.. heh. I was proud of it back then.

Bonus stuff!

After compleating the game the idea was you unlocked sevral stupid 'Bonus' cars, secret cars that were not opend untill compleation and.. unlocking all cars.
These were.. so far.

Zombie Survival Transit MK4 - Rusty, black, with guards and planks over windows, and gurders sheilding the wheels, this was heavy and unstopable.
BeamNG LDV Pilot - Suspension grove madness, The whole van jiggled around like jello due to the fact the model was set to grove, It also had no traction or speed.
Hotrod Talbort - Talbort RV with flame paintjob, and a Blown V8 infront It wheelied,
Escort RS - RS Cosworth bodykit on the escort van, hood vents, RS wheels, and super fast speed with good handling.
Chevrolet truck - Striped version of my 47 chevy truck released last year.
Kenworth - Smash anything!, striped version of kenworth W900 I made recently.

But do not fear van lovers.

Sevral transits, the berlingo, and talbort RV are backed up someplace, and I shall have them packed up in a zip and shiped out onto the internet.. Mabye the S.O.D folks can

do something with them yet. Shame msot of what I consider the Best stuff has been lost tho.. I really loved that Hymer, and the G30, and the ford econoline was one of my

favorite models thus far in this mod.
So Ill get back up with that stuff as soon as I find out where it is, and how much is saved.

Carmageddon Remade:

This was a mod I started that I dident even tell you about, was in very early stages so i guess no HUGE loss.

The idea was to make a more detailed C1, in C2 with detatchables. and what not. I allready used my Fatcat, Razorbill, Heavy Impaler that i made earlyer, I was going to remake

EVERY C1 car, And reskin every map to higher resolution.. I Currently had the first three done, Maim street, Costal carnage, and Fridge racer,
I was going to make a topic asking for assistance, due to my bad peds I woulda needed a ped maker, to replicate the C1 peds in 3d, and a mapper.. to add the powerups to C1

maps.. and also an area for Flagman to spawn, This got no further than that.


Well.... thats that, Ill get back to you if I manage to recover anything from my old HD, and ill come as soon as I find the sod transits, wich I Know exist. C2 dosent run on

this machine and like I said, Im going to start playing CR and all so I best call this a retirement right here..
Its been a fun-allmost-decade.
And im not going anywhere.. im still going to bitch and post on Carma.com, and sometimes here.
Thanks for all the support and kindness you guys have given over the years.

Maxine - Still here but... Officially retired C2 modder..
I hope we have many more fun years togeather.

P.S sorry for fuckton of big images, but its my final showoff... atleast untill I learn how CR works.

Definitely a radical, severe loss. But absolutely not the end of the road. Well it's up to you to look at it differently I guess. Could be the start of a new road etc.

Even if all your great stuff wasn't and will never be released, it's the ongoing work and creativity that really matters IMO. This isn't lost at all and all these pictures you posted still show it!

Didn't you forget to list the alternate C2 mod? It looked superb too!

Jeez, that really sucks! With so much lost stuff it might be worth looking into a data recovery service, especially if the drive isn't physically damaged. Don't know what it costs but that's a shitload of work to lose...

AAA!

What can I say? I'm crushed. I was SO looking forward to the truck mod...but I can understand your frustration and resignation. I too recently experienced a total data loss due to malware. Luckily I had backed most of it up on thumb drives and was also able to retrieve older stuff I had backed up haphazardly on CD-Rs and other stuff which I had uploaded/given to other CWA peeps. Only lost one vehicle completely which I haven't yet gotten the motivation to restart. Back when I first started the terrain on the maxmap-I lost it all when CarEd puked on it. That's why nowadays you'll see an extra folder in the zipfile called 'backup' that contains an extra .obj file in case it ever happens again. I do the same thing with Sketchup, also. I'm still working on mapmaking as time allows-ya know I'll still need somebody to help or teach me how to make more than just boring terrain....

Wish ya wouldn't retire, Maxy. We love the stuff ya make.

Awwww, what a damn shame! So much work lost! I can imagine you don't feel any motivation to get back into it, and that you see it as a way to cut loose from c2 modding and going on to newer stuff.

Sorry to hear about your loss, I know how you feel its happened to me before.
I was really looking for ward to that van mod :sad:
I think you can salvage the memory but not 100% sure

Ok, good news and bad news,

I guess bad first,

Ok so as much as I really enjoy making stuff, (and trust me I really do still want to) I kinda feel like I have to stop modding this real old game, sorry DB, Its still kinda.. hard, Im the kind of person who.. as much as it may sound weak, I cant go back and do the same thing again after a huge failure, so even if I do start modding again, SOD Vans, and Truck Me, will be forgotten projects. thos were really.. really damn close to compleation. right down to the fact I was making space filler vans to give more variaty, and I was making the last of the drones, and paths for Truck me. so dont call this a totall retirement... More of a vacation, besides im not Totally retireing from everything rember? Im still going to try get into the CR action.. Im even learning blender... look I made a chrome wheel... My first ever Not made in cared 3D Model.

Ok Good news anybody? well apart from me learning the very basics of a new modling tool for newer games and such.. Wich does mean ill have to suck at making models all over again. I checked my backup files.. and while the news is nto great (it seems I havent backed up fro a while) its still... ok news.
Truck me went inactive for a while. so I have a partially working version It has some of the roadtrain models still in there, but not the new detailed roadtrain cabs I took screenshots of a while ago, Its partially working, and has some of the trucks and trailers. theres a lot of missing content such as relaistic peds, most of the drones have dissapeard and a large chunk of trailers are missing. but still.. if you wanted to play with my new flap hitching system, have a dig thru this, there might be some working stuff left in there. I had a quick try and the main maps still seem to work, I tried Freight yard, comercial district, and they seemd to work fine.. Yes that means I actully got C2 to run on this god damn 'so called' new pc.
So yeah, have a play, have a dig, theres a bunch of stuff still left in there somewhere.

SOD is not as compleate... infact ive lost about 70% of the vans, and pretty much all the mods to the tracks, scenery etc, But still. heres a bunch of vans, Including an Astra van, transit, citroen, Talbort RV, a highres skin for the first map, and some new sounds. Ah man.. and theres such a lot of stuff I wanted to add to those too.. ideas, plans... Also theres so many New mods I wanted to do, such as an american style demolition derby based on SOD, a total cartoony anime style mod, and ofcorse that Hires version of C1. but yeah. 'Aint that a kick in the head'

Ok lets answer some questions too before im done. and reply to some of you too.


Toshiba-3:
Yeah I forgot to list that, I hadent worked on it in a while. It was a full mod that was soposed to be playable. and Oldskoolz, I still have the carskins backed up someplace.. I rember doing that. but the entire mod it seems is a loss. also I forgot to mention the 32 ford pack, and a cool looking 57 chevrolet truck I was working on at the time, the rest of my cared folder was pretty much unfinished junk. But yeah on the posative side, this could be a new start, Now that im not thinking about all the unfinished mods, I cold focus on improving my 3d modling for when CR and Carmodgeddon coems out.

Dont be sad, While lots has been lost, much experiance has been gained, and I relased some stuff I like... One of my favorite releases is still that 57 cadillac you know :P But mabye thats just because its one of my all time favorite cars too..

I heard storys about how expencive data recovery is. Im kinda coming to terms with it tho, Im not actully depressed anymore. I kinda feel ok now, and yeah I know you people wanted it too :P But atleast theres some stuff salvatged up there, so not a Total loss ... still like 80% loss tho.

^^ couple of surviving roadtrains up there. I belive its Before I totally fixed the braking hitch but they should.. Work for a little.

wow, that sucks.
i've had a hard drive start flaking out on me, but it didn't go out like a lightbulb, more like florescent that flickers and is hard to start.
i lost about 20gig of music. irritating, but not as heartbreaking as losing hours worth of work.
it may be the opportunity to try something new.
like the song from chitty chitty bang bang, from the ashes of disaster come the roses of success.
If it runs, drives, stops, has a title, AND is under $300, I'll take it!

Would really be a shame to lose you when your data may still be recoverable, do a bit of research into it and try contact a few hardware professionals for their opinions before deciding if you want to call it quits.
You and your mods are an asset to the Carmageddon community.

Hey timmy, I found some more, so thats all good right, another small car stash, you can release them if you want (after I get em all togeather and such) I assume this is gona be for the nasscar heat wich I still cant get to work? Because if its for C2 I want to go over and check the handling files sicne there quite. old saves and I redid the handling later on.
