So, here we are, here is my newest car, Speedy Slash, I have already set it ingame :

So I've converted my car to ASE from 3DS max (I use Zmodeler to do all the car, and apply material, and then I use 3ds max to reapply material and then convert), and when I use ASE2ASC122 here is the error message :

I don't know why but the simplicity of this car really amuses me.
I really like the colour and the rear wing :)

And why no rear window ?

@ TTR : This car is based on 2 LM cars, and 1 ReVolt car :
ReVolt -> Toyeca (cockpit)
LM cars -> Audi R8 LM car (rear)
-> Dauer Porsche 962 (front)

To react to the error message you get;

it seems to happen as soon as you process the car? ASE2ASC can give a number of error messages, all very unclear about the actual underlying problem.
The problem can be in unused sub-materials, single floating vertices, materials with extra maps applied like alpha or bump, etc etc.
The only way to know for sure what the problem is is to have a look at your 3d model in max. That way I can tell, or try to find the cause of the crash.

This is all assuming the problem is in the model and not your system off course... Then still I might be able to process it over here.

Can you send me the max model and all the belonging tiff files?

Wait, first: how do you port your model from ZMOD to MAX? The best thing would be to export to ASE directly from ZMOD.
Also, is your 3dsMAX in french? If so you'll have to parse the file (with notepad or similar) and replace the instances of "Multi/sous-objet" by "Multi/Sub-Object" or else the ASE2ASC parser doesn't know what it reads.
But yeah upload your files and we'll have a look :)

Edit : I tried to export the ASE file and then convert it to ASC, and it worked fine in ASE2ASC, when I saw the asc file, it was only 0k, and when I tried to import it in PT2, nothing appear

If your MAX is in french and the model uses multi/subs then you'll have to rename the term as I explained, I must do that everytime as well...

I can't open the MAX file as it's in a more recent version than MAX8. So either upload an ASE file (either from MAX or ZMOD) or let's wait for Harm to have a look.
How do you transfer the scene from ZMOD to MAX btw?

Also I forgot to tell you that you must name your textures to avoid duplicates with other addon cars. For example, here I noticed you have a file named FLIGHT.TIF, it is very likely someone else might name its headlight texture like that as well. If both cars were to be loaded in the same race, the game would use only one of these textures so one of the car would have an incorrect material.

You were using Architectural design materials on your model by the looks of it. ASE2ASC only reads standard materials in combination with multi-sub materials. 3ds max automatically makes multi sub materials as soon as you use more than one material per element.

I converted all the materials to standards and gave them unique names, fitting to the car. (As Toshiba explained, to prevent duplicate materials in the game) ASE2ASC worked fine and the model imported without problems. (it looks weird in view, but is fine)

When exporting the model to ASE, please note that you use the right settings. (I assume you already knew these, but just for the sake of things)

After importing you need to optimize the model in plaything 2. (somewhere under misc object transformations or something)


I have included the plaything model in the package, but I advise you to look at your old max model and this new one, to compare things and get the idea. I used 3ds max 10, so I hope you can open that. Otherwise take my notes as guidance.

I like the car design, and the body model is quite efficient. However, you used wheels of around 1000 polygons each! This is too much in my opinion. Overall, the model is quite decent I would say, so keep up the good work. Try to model some detail in the parts you see most in the game, like the rear end and the cockpit ;)

Well, the materials were of a different type. If you open up the material editor in 3ds max you will see the type of material when you select it. All these materials need to be standard materials... I can explain more later, right now I have to leave

the car might be too big yes, I didn't count in the fact that you might have used different units for the model.

And I have started convert two other cars XD, and one of these 2 cars <works perfectly as opponent, it appears normally, why I don't knwo, the only thing I can say is that I've created largely more materials, made them as standard materials and the place in opponent.TXT

So, mmmh, please, look at the car in the post above, it's my Niflheim GT, it works fine ingame (same problem as KillRider for the Rearlights XD), and this time, it appears normally as opponent, I think I've nearly finished this car, just to do the SIMPLE model, and the fire points.
Do I really have to use ASE2ASC? Or could you still use BeMax?
And for this car, I only used 128*128 textures, so it will be fine. Oh and last question, how can I have a reflective car, as Pip's Camaro?

Hey, seems like you got the cars in C2 anyway :)
I'm investigating the ZMOD ASE problem by the way.

Yes ofcourse you can use Bemax, it's better than nothing, especially if you don't have multi-subs.

To have the fake env mapping (as Pip's cars use), you must map your car differently (planar on the whole car), setup good smoothing groups and if possible a SHELL model. Then the material you applied must be set as either Env Mapped (inf) or Env Mapped (loc) in PT2 material settings.
You can obviously test directly without the prerequirements I explained but it will usualy look lame, if not bad.
This effect is good on mid/hi-poly models with enough details to compensate the use of the env map material.

Hey, I have a little soucai ^^, with all my cars, when they are near to be cut in a half, the game crash immediatly, I know it comes from the WAM file, how can I change it to not crash anymore, what are the settings?

People still frequent the CWA Board, not so much as the game has aged though.. Not sure about Wasted!, Newton may have integrated some system for registering but the last time I checked you'd have to either ask me, Newton or others with permission to upload files (I think TTR has permission also.)

Gravedigger? Well, it's a Mtruck, ok, but the shape is totally, hmm, different, but he has always gravedigger in his mind, indeed, he has asked to RV community to convert it to RV and TrackMania COmmunity to convert to TM, and it's going to be spamming, just because he repeat alwas what he wants :s
