Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
Instead of manual transmission, the cars in C2 have automatic transmission. There are some tricks that aren't told in the manual of the game, so whether you already knew these or not, here are two for those who are interested. Airport's runway is a good place to test the transmission tricks.
Let's assume that key "Z" is defined as the wheelspin-key.
1. Kickdown device: (forced throttle) Hold Z while accelerating. The upshift is delayed until you release Z. If you force the throttle at gear 1 or steer too tightly, you may lose the control of the car.
2. Engine braking: (after downshift) This is an alternative for handbrake and brake pedal. When you're driving forward, release throttle and let the car roll, then tap Z. Each tap shifts the gear down once, and because of the engine braking, the speed will be reduced to match the lower gear. If too 'low' gear is engaged at high speed, the strong engine braking may cause you difficulties with the handling of the car...
Something else then... more handling and other fun/odd things...
3. Extra grip with Afterburner: Using afterburner affects to car's speed, ride height, suspension, and to the grip of the tires, which lets us accelerate with front wheels airborne... but you can also cause some wild behaviour by hitting the handbrake while you use Afterburner. Especially cars with high centre of mass will flip over instantly, and may start rolling like a barrel.
4. Wrap the Mutant Tail: Open Data/General.txt, then search for "Mutant tail". Change the "Number of links including ball" to 10. In the game, get the powerup (BIGDANGLE-cheat). Drive around e.g. a tree, so that the tail will be wrapped around it, then clear out... And what happens?
Post your tricks too, thank you.

I just cant come up with anything atm :P Maybe tommorow...
Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
heh, i knew about that mutant tail link thing, although never bothered to try it. one thing, er not really a trick, but if you change the peds mass in the data/peds/settings.txt you can make em more realistic so that they dont die as easy, and if you over do it, they will never die... and they will damage your car, not to mention you can hit one in front of a window and he'll be "punted" into the air and go threw the window

I've been thinking of increasing ped's mass, but always have forgotten to do it.
I just checked the textfile... where are the mass settings then?

err its in the forms folder rather, "BIPED1.txt" is the man, the rest are in that folder also
each part of the body has its own mass associated

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
One trick I have found has to do w/ the afterburner: instead of pressing the key continuously, press the powerup key+the spin wheels key together for a brief instant then release.....the engine will rev up like crazy and the tranny will delay the upshift for a while. You can exceed the normal top speed of the car this way(but it'll slow down once the "boost" is over).Almost feels like a real nitrous kit!
Of course, it helps that I modified my a/b powerup a bit(no increase in grip!).

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
Small Block, that reminds me about another thing with afterburner: (I haven't tried yet, though!) Change grip multiplier into 100, speed multiplier into 100. In the game: hold handbrake, rev up to max RPMs, start using afterburner and release handbrake... probably gonna look crazy!?
Engine braking, BTW, of course applies without downshifting... just release the throttle and let the car roll. To get rid of this, tap handbrake briefly: the neutral gear is switched on and car won't slow down so fast.
^^^ May not be very useful for C2 players, but this possibility is there as well.
Autopilot: I tripled the mass of each body part. They are harder to kill, indeed, and the ped impacts can be seen more clearly.

I think the car would just flip over if you do that!
I remember doing things w/ the a/b that would make the car explode when you activated it, but I can't remember what it was.......

Exactly, I also think that would happen.
Explode? Did it involve speed boost & a wall in front of the car?

No, actually I think it was more along the line of having an insane amount of power in the car and an insane power multiplier in the powerup...or sth like that.

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
one that i do that's a bit tricky to execute is hitting the afterburner while heading towards a jump. once you are almost on top of the ramp, hit the brake and start a slight fishtail, while at the same time holding z and getting some RPMs up. once you hit the bottom of the ramp, punch it. you will fly off the ramp doing a manic 180 degree spin like a helicopter blade! it's wild! when you land, it not on all fours, you'll roll and tumble like a sumuvabitch...

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
Some tips if you're trying to fall down from a rooftop... sometimes you might end up upside down, but try these:
1. When approaching the edge, start wheelspinning around while still moving: most times the car's bottom remains parallel to the ground, and you land on four wheels.
2. If you tap handbrake, the car leans forward a bit, because the body tries to 'keep up the speed'. When you release it, the car leans backward to the original position. (of course you have to accelerate then) Tap and release the handbrake just before driving off the edge, and once again the body should remain parallel to the ground and you land on 4 wheels.
The first tip is more cooler, IMO.

The whole 'spinning to keep level when coming off a roof' is the technique I use alla the time, plus it looks cool.
on The Maw level in Halo, the jump right at the end, it makes a great technique here, if you can keep it going in one flow, so you land and then carry on straight away, it looks the shit
I purposely die at the end, so I can do the driving bit over and over in it, totally rocks

personally, i just like to use the 'z' key while using the turbo and try and lose control, more fun when you're goin over a jumps
Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
isn't it wonderful how this game is text-based to the core?
But yeah, the handbreak spinning to keep the car level is pretty much common sense though.
Have you ever played crazy taxi? -WORST physics in the world. there are places in the game where you are supposed to clear a certain distance, so you think "whoa, I wonder what I can pull off of that 200 ft. ramp!"
- but no matter what forces your car is under when you hit the edge of the ramp (ie spinning) the car will just float in the same x*y*z direction all the way through the air. it's absolutley impossible to flip in that game -it just sucks.
I'd like to thank the good person who wrote the carmageddon 2 physics engine.

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
New physics tip, that my tut lacks:
Minimum turning circle
Radius in meters * 0.2 OR Diameter in meters * 0.1.
Example: The manual of my VW Golf says the minimum turning circle is 10 meters. In C2, the value would then be 10 * 0.1 = 1.
"Bah! Who cares!?"

Hmmm, are you sure that's the real thing? I think it would be influenced by how you scale the car......anyway I just tested it w/ the Fox, scaled down a tiny bit. It turns inside a circle that(visually, of course!) that looks like 9 meters or so....w/ a value of...0.5.
So I think you're a bit off on that one.

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
id say that some cars have a hig turing rate... like my car... Enomous bitch (value should be something like 1.0) gets a feeling that it turns to swiftly at the value of 0.5 due to the reson that the car is big... while a smalller car like a buzzshitweight or what the name is gets a feeling of having a to big turining rate... as if the fox should have a turning rate of visulay 9´mtrs... try to look from straight above... and when you made a circle... the circles diameter should be 2 times the lenght of the car... hope that made sense

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
(For Small Block)
Don't know about the scale... but I used "1" for your '83 Camaro, and it seemed like real. (At low speed of course, as it's meant to be)
Actually, since 10 meters was for Golf, maybe 14 meters would be for Camaro, which would be 1.4 in C2. Don't know if there's a formula, but mine seemed like somewhat good.
Do you have a steering wheel, BTW? I have, and I did the test with it... the steering boost may have an effect on it as well? And wheel positions too... plus that I edit the cars to have the same Z-value, i.e. equally far from Z-position "0". (except the minus for front wheels)
Oh well, oh well...
Hey, if a real-life car's scale was changed, then the "minimum turning circle" in real-life would change too. (Think of a R/C car)

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
I think the number is more an angular offset the steering wheels are moving up to than a real "turning circle"...the crown vic exhibits pretty much the same behavior(with respect to its size.....turning circle=around 12-13 meters). Btw, you're right, the turning radius is also dependent on the wheelbase and overall size of the car, but it doesn't change that much as long as the bigger car doesn't have huge overhangs. I think a C4 corvette has a 12-meter circle....Camaro should be the same...a full-size car like a caprice is around 14 meters.
I don't have a wheel, but it obviously changes how the steering behaves, as you're having an analog, absolute position input instead of the digital one the k/b sends....which, btw is the reason why k/b driving has that nonlinear intensity(turns faster if you press the key longer).

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
the turning radius is also depending (in real life) of what the drive type is... a RWD car usualy can turn in a smaller radius than a FWD car... sience FF´s drive mechanisms are built into the turning parts of the car, and they are not as durable as a standard RWD car... just take a look at a Volvo 240 series and then compare to a volvo 850 series (sience we have booth of the car types at home and ive driven them booth)... the 245 (RWD)we have turns in a mutch smaller radius than the 855(FWD) we have... eaven if the 245 is longer and sutch, its mutch easier to drive in city trafic than the 855...
BUT remember that some carmaker might wanna put a max turning degree rate on the (RWD) cars due to the reson its not to god for the mechanic parts of the front to turn to mutch... it puts a huge load of pressure on the front area of the car

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
I love using the biggest pyramid (with the 2 levels like, on the desert maps in c2) for stunts
up one side, down the other
Yesterday I was doing front flips, and then I did a double backflip, was most strange...
Speed up one side, and jump to the top of the highest bit, but get your front wheels to just clip it... if your back follows through well enough, you should be able to just miss it, and get a perfect double backflip (If it hits it, you'll prolly do a front flip)
Try it out, looks cool

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
all great stunts, but as you all might NOT know, i am one of the great stunt masters of carma2.
ok, ill share some secrets:
Beaver woods:
go to one side of the rail road, turn the camera side ways so you can see the train coming. according to the speed of your car determines when you have to gun it. the goal it to get tha train to clip your rear en, so you can "helicopter" throught the air.....
line you car up to a ramp so that you have a good run at it. now, make sure that half of you car is on the ramp and the other half is on the ground. if you hit the ramp right, you should be barrel rolling through the air.
I KILLED THE JET:
in group 8, go to aipain3. now i cant explain this stunt its too hard, but ill try. at the end of one of the runways where the jet comes down for a landing, you notice the yellow marker thingys. you have to get everything perfect the speed the timing, and the way you hit the ramp. youl have to start at the oppiste end of the runway to get up max speed. then aim for the jet coming down for a landing. ive only hit it twice, both times landing on all fours. next time i do it, ill make sure to record it to sorta make a tutorial.
cheers!

Re: Just for fun: driving/fun/weird tricks
Before I read Econo's reply, I thought the ramp thing was continuation to the railroad trick.. I was then slightly confused...
Anyway an easier method for the helicopter thing is, of course, using "Kangaroo on Command"... stop your car so that the front is in the railroad and the rear isn't. Before the train hits you, use the Kangaroo-powerup.
But no doubt that using Forsaken Brolly's trick is definately a lot cooler if you manage to do it.

i managed a long time ago to hit a semi in a headon... the fesoult was that i made a 360 loop and a 180yaw motion over the semi and landed between two cars chasing eatch other... but that was purely a one time happening... bt simmiliar things has happend
