He's the fastest PED aliiiiive!!

As a twisted sonic fan, i couldn't not relase his ped first or later

Ladies and Gentlemans: Sonic The HedgePED!

(Or would you prefer Sonic The PEDgehog? but sounds more pedophile than pedestrian o.O')

Image Image

He have different heads and sounds too!

in the read me i've written id's to type in Sound.txt i've used. But WATCHOUT and check if mine id's conflict with some sounds of yours, if it happens remember to change sounds id's in both Data\Sound\Sound.txt and data\peds\sound\sonicsounds.txt !!!

Dowload here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EBQ9BI2H

now, you must read a lot of boring stuff!:

i've tried my best on this one, his texturing was really challenging for me, i wanted to do the mapping without ugly interruptions over the entire head, and because of the particular shape of the character couldn't use my usual 'gta3-like' way of texturing. And to make things worse, i wanted to use textures form Super Smash Bros Brawl. i mean these ones:

http://www.vooks.net/images/sonic_071010b-l.jpg

luckily i've founded in a website an archive where were already ripped and converted to tga. (or else i had to download a backup iso, access it, search the damn textures, download many annoyng tools to extract them and convert to a humanly accessible format.)

after that, i've tried my best to fit an amount of textures supposed to fit in two separated 512x512 in only one 256x256 preventing them to look blurred as hell removig only the essential and doing some tetris, in the end the radical polygons discrepancy made things even worse

922-930 v.s. 6.390 tris!

I'm satisfied of the results, but i have to hear your opinions first

About the model itself, it's mainly ripped from 1999's Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast:

http://www.futuregamez.net/dcgames/soni ... cadv01.jpg

i've cleaned it a bit, this was pretty easy, semplified arts and welded hands articolations unused in C2, semplified a bit the eyebulb semisphere and replaced esagonal pupils model by 4 tris planes. it was 1001 tris, now the main model it's 922. With others 2 heads is 930(i've even modelled mouth and teeth!). not so much but hey, when you have many of them on the screen every saved tris is good

Enjoy

i want a cookie from you now! u__ù

How does one go about ripping peds from other games? Seems complicated.

thanks

hmm yes, i think i will relase others sonic's crew characters in future

About Mario peds, Harmalarm has made already a whole mario-like map filled by varius mario's characters

about ripping, it depends by games and platforms, on pc games usually is not that hard especially if the game is predisposed for modding. in alternative you can use 3DripperDX, and get '3D screenshots' form the scene but everytime one of the xyz depth get distorted, missing faces, missing/moved modelparts, and restore them in the original form can be tedious. I've used that for example to rip peds and drivers form crazy taxy 3 and use them as base to make my own peds. It capture even most of the texture and uv mapping but i prefeer so much to choose different textures and uv map in my own way.

On consoles it gets more complicated, you must hack gamefiles, find models and understand how the model data file works, i have to admit this kind of hacking is far way over my capabilities, i'm used to use existing tools for rips when possible.

think about Beroc and Ben Beard for example, i guess they studied how .dat's files works and made their own tools like BeMax and CarEd, in a similar way it's possible to rip models also where programmers denied a direct access to models or are simply supposed to work on a different hardware like consoles, sometime is necessary to mod the console and force it to send data to a PC (Don't know if it is common as procedure, but i know DreamCast's rips works in that way).

wow it looks very nice indeed  as soon as i seen this it reminded me of the project i once had in mind about making a track in which would be a sonic level and the car would be sonic itself, so that we could use the "steel gonad o'death" cheat to make sonic (as our car) roll around the level and smashing everything  Altough it would be needed some more peds from sonic's games and this is a very good start, even tough it would be necessary to port this ped to a car. This done correctly would be a very good idea, but unfortunately i still have no time for c2 editing at the moment.

Anyways keep up the good work looking forward for a few other peds from sonic's world, like eggman, tails, knuckles, etc

That's right timmy. Besides, Yfrid probably made the avatar himself by photoshoping a pic of Jason V.

I wonder if it would be possible to code this pedestrian to have "turbo pedestrian" on permanently.

I don't think we can apply an action ID or force a powerup on a ped, but we can change the attributed animation for each action ID, or even the animation itself (BON are ok, SKL are difficult to generate). Maybe we can simply increase the animation speed directly from within the ped's paperwork.
