New map

Post by Razor »

I have made a map :lol::D:D

It's a first so don't judge me too harshly.

As you can probably tell the centre is very similar to beaches of blood, this is because i love that map and i love hitchhiker harvest so i added a loop de loop.

I also like the roads in the french alps (the winding roads).

I hope you all think it's okay :]

It's still in it's early stages as its still only in sketchup.

(if it's difficult to see the roads i'll outline them)

That looks like it could be really fun. But before you go further, all the places that are shaded blue need to have the faces reveresed to the beige color. Otherwise they'll be inside out in the game.

Make sure you flip the blue faces before texturing then. Otherwise it'll be a nightmare figuringout which is which

Get it built and textured in Sketchup, we can help with the steps to get it into PT2

Texturing is taking a long time x_x

is there any way of scaling more than one texture at once?

"Texturing is taking a long time x_x" - welcome to the world of map-making

"is there any way of scaling more than one texture at once?" umm, no. But you can scale a texture globally so you don't have to keep scaling the same one over and over

double-click on texture and go to edit tab. see attached screenie

Sweet indeed, C1 maps are just the best..I'm liking the rehash of C1 textures as they were hard edged instead of smooth(er) looking from C2.

I would do anything just for an alignment button (ala Ued3.0)

I've still got to align all of the roads up and i need to align some of the cliffs up.

Wow nice looking preview pics...

About the trees and other moveable objects... ONLY model them here if you plan doing new objects from scratch, if you want to use objects from the game itself, it will have to be in plaything2 later.

But i hope you do new moveable objects as well

I imported the three trees just for that screenshot :P

I'll do everything else in PT2 (unless it keeps crashing like it always does to me)

Just look at the title of the plaything2 window and tell here what it says after the name of the project and the minus signal... Or just take a screenshot of the plaything2 window.

Hey wow, nice work man. You textured all of it in a single day! Great. And yeah, texturing is a very teadious job... The urban brawl map took me 2 days. But the right textures can add so much more realism to the map!

great work! Can't wait to test it.

Well, with teadious I mean it is usually a hell of a job, not so much fun though... but the result can be very rewarding.

yeah, then before you go ahead and create the whole track. There is a way to extrude a face over a line in sketcup, and it can even somewhat have the right texture coordinates. If you texture your first racetrackpart right, and then extrude one of the side faces of the track, it should result in a trackpart all textured. I did it once in sketchup. I don't really know how it works by heart, but you should read the help file, it is explaned in there. Also it is not watertight, but it will at least save you a lot of work texturing after!

I had to make a few adjustments, but it went into the game pretty quickly.

Hey, I have to say I was was pleasantly surprised by this map!! Really is C1-like in feel.

Image

I did some basic paperwork so you'd have sky and haze. Water splashes, but you need to do the animation paperwork for waves

Image

This is a big map!

You should add a bunch of non-cars like palm trees, telephone poles, trash cans.

Once done, final processing gives you peds and generates map. NOTE: NEVER preprocess your Master of the .sdf file. Do it to a copy. Once it's been processed you can't edit it again.

I am totally stumped at play thing 2, i've read the entire tutorial on Coffey's site and i am still stumped.

The map works in game and i am very pleased with it (it's much better than i thought it would be).

All it needs is: Opponent Paths, Noncars, Drones, Peds, etc.

I'll continue to try and figure out how to use PT2.

If i give up i'll post the map for someone else to do it (if anyone wants to).

That's whats wrong with kids now-a-days. Too ready to give up!

You're not going to know everything about map-making in an hour or two...or three or four. Take your time and mess with a copy of the .sdf I sent back to you....just make sure you got a backup saved
