Ford Fairmont

Post by Qwerty_86 »

Finally started another project. It's taken me about 3 weeks to get to this point. So don't expect this to be done as fast as others. I still need to model an interior and I want to model out the straight-6 and drivetrain (a first for me!). This is also the first car I've made for C2 that I didn't make for MM1 previously. So I had to do research and find tons of pics. I'm surprised to find out that this car is a unibody. Anyways, here's some pics.

Wow qwerty, the car looks great! Possibly your best looking to date. I love the color, very 70's . And yeah, its a unibody. In fact, the same unibody with some minor modifications was used in the 2004 Mustang. The 2005 will have a modern platform though.

Two-tone paintjobs are nice, fancy!

I'm not sure which year this one would be, but it looks kinda too wide (specially compared to an '80 model), unless its just perspective throwing it off. Maybe the bumpers need to be a bit bigger too, tallness wise.

Should be a classic!

My first take on this is that it's a very square car, and I personally would cut a lot of polys from it (not so much from the bits that are round, but from the flat bits the have too many polys doing nothing-- the hood and windowpillars specifically). Of course it wont deform as well in c2 with less polys, but you get nicer gameplay :P

Other than that, the "overall" look of the model = sw33t. I'll wait for more pics.

Thanks. I'll fix the bumper. It does seem a little weird.

I was trying to reduce some polys. But I do like my cars to cruple nicely too. This is why the doors are simplified more than the front and rear. The doors won't deform anyways. And the fact that I want to have shiney chrome around the windows results in an extra strip of polys around them.

Ahh, I was hoping one of these would come along sooner or later! This is a fine, stylish ride! Abd yes, the 2 tone suits it well! There is one in town which is an awful light blue color, kinda beatup too. So when this is released I will re-create it! Great work.

Yeah, C2 is more rewarding. I don't have to deal with body damage textures and the damage is much more realistic.

Anyways, here's a revised model. I made the bumper 15% bigger and made the car 5% narrower. I also eliminated about 40 polys, but I can remove a few more from the wheels.

Actually, you should release it pretty much like this. Just a solid box. It'd feel like I'm playing some strange cross between Carmageddon and Driver.

Carboy, do you really think I'll release it as-is?

Of course I have to do some more tweaking. Too bad I've got a busy week. Exams, reading, and other stuff.

Finally an update! Yes, I'm slow, but it's getting done. Took me 4 hours to get this far today. My first time modelling a chassis and drivetrain. I know it's not exactly like the real thing, but it's close. I still need to add a few more things under the hood and then I'll work on the interior. I'm just as excited as you guys for this to get done.

for a bit more detail you should add this small peice to your kickin ride

its some kind of cross memeber to support the drive shaft (he thinks) incase of failure or bottoming out

Update! Modelling is done and all that's left is the game stuff.

Yes I know it's a little high poly for such a boxy car, but I've got so many details.

Some detailed exterior shots.

Here's the driver. That's one of those fake tuxedo T-shirts so it's suppose to look like that.

Interior. Yes, that's an 8-track tape deck.

Not done yet, but I did preview it in-game. Found a couple of modelling errors that I have to fix. PITA trying to get it just right. Anyways, does anyone know how I can fix the chrome? It turns black sometimes depending on what angle the camera is. With the standard cam while racing, the rear window frame is completely black.

Image

Yeah I know the car rides a little low. I'll probably have to fix the ride height so that it looks better.

Damn. I put a black border around the chrome texture to define the gap for the doors and frames. I guess that means no refelctions.

Its not really reflections, (well, I guess it was intended to be used as a cheap inmatation for the non-transparant car windows in c1), But the only thing that dumb envoy mapping thing does is blur the texture all together and rolls it around.

Ok, detachables and tuning done. Bbox, firepoints, simple, and shell needs to be finished. I made the fan rotate, I'm so proud. Does anyone know what valid keywords will work for "ease of detachment"? The license plate is being anal and won't detach easily even when I use "easy". And autopilot, do you mind if I borrow your special bumper cam?

i believe you have these options:

very_hard

hard

normal

easy

very_easy

I use very_easy for all the small things, like plates, mirrors, etc, and it serves well. (so long as the bbox is correct..)

and surely, although its not like i invented it!

it looks like a Honda CRX (probbly wrong) and who made it?

BTW: your car is looking damn sweet, is it possilbe you can make a 5 0 version (cop)?

imo it looks nice kinda lower than stock ride hight
