Solar Flare [Psycho/TechArena]

Hi,

No, not a release yet. Just some informations so far.

The TechArena project was just a kind of test to see how far I could handle smoothing groups, giant polygons, materials settings, the full lit trick and the funks. Though I had in mind to make something psychedelic and abstract out of that.
Here's how far I had come :

But now I realized it was missing the point I really aimed for and finally got a more solid redesign abstract-wise. The Arena is back into MAX stage and will probably be heavely modified in comparison to what you see in that video.
So before I delete all the templates (and deleting is my favorite hobby), should I quickly prepare a unfinished-but-shared-anyway type of release ? I can quickly change the sky (no idea about what kind though), make a C2T and voila~

And then proceed to prepare the definitive, really novelty arena.
Which has no final name yet.

When I first looked at that screenshot, I thought that it was of one of those strange errors.:errr:
It is a neat and different idea. A psychedelic "Hippie" theme would be fitting, such as flowers floating from the center.:heh:
As for a sky, guess it could be bright blue with happy fluffy clouds and big happy sun, puking rainbows all over the place!:nyaha:

I like the idea, though I think I was getting motion-sickness watching the vid :nyaha:

I wonder if the scale of the some textures could be larger to avoid the moiré pattern?
Or maybe some Purple Haze :sglasses: would lessen the moiré for objects in the distance.

Ok, well I did a quick finish.
I changed and setup the sky, placed the powerups, changed some materials, and tweaked things here and there.
The track isn't preprocessed though so you can modify it the way you want.
Now I can go on the different and prefered idea I have for a real abstract arena~

Hopefully you set some of the textures to scroll extremely fast and some others to use the "throb" setting as well, Tosh?! I think that would really add to the desired effect.

I'll check it out...

@ Coffey : Pay attention to the fact that if you preprocess the track, you'll have to reassign the numbers to the powerups and noncars in the GROOVE section, else the game will crash. If you want to do a lot of testing, just remove the grooves till you're done.

@ Econo : I haven't used the throb effect, not sure it would have really suited the other animations. Anyway the final arena in this project won't use any effect so I don't care anymore~

SOLAR FLARE

Now, this is interesting !
I changed the gameplay to make the arena yet more aggressive and fast.
Some cool tricks used, etc. I hope it will run well with C2O !

Yes, Alex, the fake celshading trick, the full lit trick, and some complex grooves.

Oh, and yes FF has such feature, though I never tried it ?!

Wow, that looks really freaky. Can you also make peds look that way? Could give Carma a nice comic-look.

But the track is so disorentating! :heh:

Ok, I finally installed Carma2 and I got to say, this is very weird, yet very cool.
There is one thing about it though. Without the shading, its harder to tell were the slopes and walls are. I suppose some "flat" shading done with textures would fix that, if you get what I'm saying.
Still, it looks great and I like what you've done with it, such as with the power ups.
