Another one?!

Image

Modelling's done.
Texturing is underway, but what's on it now is only temporary...needs quite a bit more work and maybe a color change too.

412 triangles total.
An even 300 for the car body itself.

It was even more simple initially, but I had to add a few here and there for texture mapping purposes. Still, it's lower than some of the original Splat Pack cars.

Woah! A new car.
Nice one Econo, you could perhaps make two versions of this: this stock version and another with an offensive weapon on the front.

Yessir, nice model indeed. Nice P-count. And even if this is a temporary texture, I like the front and the hood already!

Thankens!

Yeah, the grille and light textures worked out nicely, so those probably won't change. Mainly more of a gradient on the hood and such.

Funny you should say that Razor, as that was the idea at the beginning. :)
A car in the style of the originals... that's why this time all of the textures are drawn from scratch. As opposed to the '73s I made that had real photos for some bits.

The first thing that came to (the high at the time) mind was a sort of giant razor blade thing placed vertically on the part where the front comes to a point. Wasn't sure how it would look, so I took the typical stock route... but I probably will go back to that, now. (or something else along those lines)

I was originally going to have the proportions exaggerated too...but if you look at the C1/SP cars that are based on real cars, like the Carkey & Clutch item, they didn't really mess around much...other than the flared rear fenders, it's shaped almost exactly like a normal '69 camaro. (although the textures depict a '70 chevelle?!)
Anyhow, didn't take that route.

I think you could make that blade rather easily afterward (as an alt version) with about 14-16 triangles.
Also you're crazy to work with such a low contrast look! Pixel diffusion galor!

Stock version is ready to go in-game (a job for tomorrow).
Image

16 textures of 64x64
and one 32x32
All the green in the textures is converted to the c1 palette...thought for sure I'd have to lose some of the shading in the process, but nope?!

Added a few polys around the back window for the chrome trim, and the hood ornament. final count be 428 triangles!

Also added the blade for the other version, but I'll have to come up with an alternate skin, naturally... :B

Needs MOAR work though...
-Scale adjust
-Physics
-Cockpit Images, hood model
-All that interface stuff

Bladed thingie should follow shortly after, with a different skin and so on...

Wow, it's looking real nice and crispy man. Both Front and rear texture are very convincing I think, and for that poly-count it bears quite a lot of detail.

makes my fingers ache for some modeling myself!

Well, here's the Carma-ey version so far:
Image

Went with a different type of offensive thingie. :B
Since it didn't require changing the model, I made this version into a 1980...and bare bones, unlike the "grand" item?!

Skin still needs a little something-something, methinks...

yeah, me likes! The little chrome edge on the wheelcaps and windows is a nice touch. Also the front scoop is a plus. The tire thread texture could be a bit better imo though...
perhaps you can add some pre-textured dents, scratches and rust to make it look less clean and more gory?

To be honest I think it is good like that. Clean car plus a Carmageddon weapon always does it for me.
Harm, I think the tire treads there are his "C1 design" touch :] Doing it like the original C1 cars.

Yes, I already thought so. I guess I don't like the way stainless did it then... ( BLASPHEMY!) It is such a small detail, but so easy to change and such a big impact on the realism imho...

any other plans for it Econo, or are you going to release it as is?

Plans indeed!

I'm doing the cockpit images as we speak:
Image

Hand drawn this time...to look more like the default items (although it doesn't look much like them at this point, heh)

Obviously it still needs a lot more shading and stuff.
This will be the stock one, after i recolor the upholstery to dark green.
Plow version will use this dark red, but with a higher limit speedometer & tach, a metal box with damage indicator covering the 4 vents on the right, and probably all that other techy stuff c1 cars have :P

Herro!
Progress has slowed a little...
I have to make the most of this small window of decent weather before things go back to a sub-polar shitfest, dontcha know?!

Anyway, I've reworked the skin a little.
Image

The dithering is now less uniformed to be more inline with the looks Splat Pack cars had, for example (although the difference isn't very obvious)

We want a release Econo!
What's missing now? Nothing!
Just use the same cockpit image as the stock model and change tones/materials here and there and you're good to go?!
