do a 50-50 mix of thinner and flat black, testors has a rust color also. any piece of rusted metal and a wire wheel will work, then give the model a spray of matte clear, and wirewheel the rusted metal beside it and onto it. works on some stuff here's one I did http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q21...

you can see the fire when it happens,
you can get a fire extinguisher in through the top,
and when the radiator is smashed flat, you can still get air into the engine and let some heat out from under the hood.
