Gave it a look, and I think those are vertex colours set to 50% gray. Material colours (unused but set in the .hie file) also seem to indicate these were setup with 50% gray in mind. Late reply, sorry. Personaly I still rely on Beroc's good old "create a new cube at the origin and attach your transformed element to it". That resets everything and you're 100% both the working pivot and the creation pivot are at the same coordinates. He explains his method in this page ...

I think he meant: what was the solution you found?
This is probably just a material characteristic (shiny/2sided/neon) as defined in the hie file being shown weird in the car gallery.

There is also the option of using _inmmcnf.exe with CARM95.EXE instead of CARMA2_HW.EXE I guess:

Thanks for testing, friends I only encountered that crash once, couldn't reproduce afterward, so I hope it's not happening too regularly. I imagine it's the bounding box being a bit too complex.

Yeah splitting the vertices/edges fixes these shading issues and better define the hard edges on the car.
