Re: how do I change a car's attributes in C2?

The .txt file for the car has about all the instruction you need for tuning already in it. Just follow the advice after each of the numbers and try out numbers and learn what the applicable ranges are and you'll get it. The only way to really learn tuning is to try things (one at a time!) and s...

Re: That Bugger Stole my Sandwich!

The problem is that the skin is already listed in the texturedescriptor. That makes the game treat it as if it's a standard skin and it looks for those files(the tx's and the tga's). However, those files don't exist yet-- the only things in the folder are the two bmp's in the skins folder. I got it ...

Thanks man, that's great to know. What I have been doing is to extract the contents of the .pak to a different folder and leave them in there to edit. Then when I'm done I add the stuff that's been changed back to the .pak and run the game. So I should be able to extract the files to the appropriate...

NBP is boring and other thoughts....

An odd thing I've noticed about the NBP; it makes what threatened to be an ultimately dull game even duller. TDR took some getting used to after c2 because the damage works differently. As I've mentioned before, TDR is set up so that you do damage a little at a time and have to be careful because yo...

more on tuning and input preferences...

Spurred partly by Hellspawn's thread on input of choice and partly by the fact that my newest wheel won't work in c2 and I was going through withdrawal, I tried c2 first with my Wingman gamepad, then with the keyboard. The result? The cars that I was so proud of-- that were tuned so perfec...

Re: c2 with Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel

Nah, sorry, I haven't tried recording anything. I've just tried to get the pedals to work right. I've tried it in both separate and combined mode. In separate mode c2 doesn't even recognize the brake pedal, and in combined it's locked into reverse. I've decided that the fault is somewhere in the way...

Re: runtime error 70 with installer

Thanks all for the info. I have the patch, but I haven't installed any more cars since I got it. I spent part of last night editing in the 12 cars I had already installed, and as I had suspected that took them out of my list when I restarted a game. Apparently the patched program does indeed recogni...

Re: c2 vs. TDR on the new 'puter

When I compared the cars I wasn't referring to the meshes; that's just eye candy as far as I'm concerned. I prefer a car to look good, but the really important thing to me is that they handle good, and in that the TDR OEM cars totally dominate the c2 ones. The only c2 OEM cars that ha...

c2 with Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel

After almost three years of valiant service, I finally had to retire my beloved Wingman Formula wheel. The new Wingmans suck (they look like they should come free in a packet of cereal), and the Thrustmasters didn't look much better, so despite my unshakeable belief that Bill Gates is the AntiChrist...

Re: c2 vs. TDR on the new 'puter

I didn't see anything much in the carnamedescriptor.txt files that looked like it would do anything. What works? The first part is just references to the models and textures and whatnot, the second is basic inertia and torque and so on (these numbers are identical for Canto and McKillem, but th...

Re: runtime error 70 with installer

Hmmm... more questions: With the patches installed the cars just show up. They still aren't listed in any of the .txt files, so I would have to assume that part of what the patches did was to tell the program to just check the assets/cars folder and to ignore the car_descriptor.txt file. The curious...

Re: TDR drones are concrete boxes!!!

A few thoughts on this thread: First: TDR damage is less convincing than c2 damage. That's a given. The damaged textures in TDR look like they were sketched in (poorly I might add) with a pencil. They don't look like dents and torn metal; they look like the best that a poorly skilled artist-wannabe ...

Thanks, but my skins pretty well suck. The tunings are what I'm proud of, but I can't see releasing someone else's car with their skin and just changing the tuning. That's too much like theft. If I could do a decent skin then I could maybe justify it, but not otherwise. <img clas...

Re: runtime error 70 with installer

Nope, that's not it. I just edited in the appropriate lines for MadCat and when I tried to start the game it showed an error for the Car_Descriptor.txt. When I deleted those lines it ran fine. So obviously that's not it.

Which means what? Add the necessary lines to the car_descriptor.txt? If so does it matter where? Are they just tacked onto the end? Is there anything else that needs to be done?
